The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kovalev misses with a series of wild punches.
A momentary lapse in concentration from Masuyo enables Kovalev to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Masuyo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Masuyo wants to sweep here but Kovalev controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Kovalev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Kovalev drops back, looking for a kneebar! Masuyo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Masuyo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Masuyo!
Kovalev is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Masuyo is trying to get an arm triangle but Kovalev is defending well.

Kovalev has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Masuyo. Oh but Kovalev has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Masuyo goes limp - he's gone! Kovalev jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
