PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Don Shaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roy Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shaw comes to the cage accompanied by Body Head Bangerz - Can't Be Touched. Walker comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Tron kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Don Shaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Roy Walker!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Paul Tew and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shaw tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Walker paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Shaw throws out a powerful jab.
Shaw throws a body punch but Walker moves out of range.
The crowd cheers as Shaw lands an impressive looking overhand right. Walker doesn't seem phased though.
Walker shoots in for a double leg but Shaw sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Shaw comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Walker dives in and grabs Shaw's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shaw pushes down on Walker's head and hops out.
Walker takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Shaw throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Walker was covering up waiting for the punch and Shaw finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Walker has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Shaw is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Shaw wants to control from the top but Walker keeps moving.
Shaw stands and throws Walker's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Walker seems a little lost for a moment, as Shaw dominates the positioning.
Shaw wants to control but Walker is keeping him busy.
Walker really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Shaw. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Shaw swings around for an armbar but Walker sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Shaw's guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walker is looking to work some ground and pound but Shaw has wrist control.
Walker postures up in Shaw's guard and throws a big left but Shaw blocks it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Walker looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Shaw tries to get to full guard but Walker has control of the leg.

Walker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shaw's head.

Walker trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Walker circles away from the clinch attempt.
Shaw lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Walker misses with a takedown

and Shaw counters with a takedown into side control.
Shaw misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Walker is looking for a sweep.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shaw in side control, throwing shots but Walker defends.

Shaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Shaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Walker can't do much from the bottom here.
I wouldn't like to be where Walker is right now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
You can see the frustration on Walker's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Walker shoots for a double leg takedown but Shaw sprawls well. He's pushed Walker's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shaw just misses with a punch to the body.
Shaw fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shaw lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Shaw.
Shaw scores with a hook to the body. Walker takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Walker on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Shaw moves in looking to clinch but Walker pushes him off.
Shaw looks to throw the jab but Walker is out of range.
Shaw lands with a thumping leg kick.
Walker ducks under a wild hook from Shaw.
Shaw throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Shaw throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Walker fails to land the takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Walker slips under a jab from Shaw.
Shaw smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Walker shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Shaw counters with a right hand to the body.
Walker takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Walker uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Shaw.
Don Shaw is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shaw scores with a jab. Walker acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Shaw closes the distance and clinches up with Walker, looking for a takedown. Shaw pushes Walker against the cage but Walker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shaw throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Shaw throws a head kick that misses.
Shaw wants to clinch.
Walker takes a shot to the body in his stride.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Shaw shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Walker manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Walker is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shaw is in close to Walker's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Walker looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shaw is one step ahead there.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Shaw accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Don Shaw is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Shaw trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Shaw slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Shaw forces his way into half guard.
Walker is looking to improve his position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Shaw tries to pass the half guard into mount. Walker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Shaw is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Walker is trying to get back to full guard.
Roy Walker has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Shaw has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
