The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Royster is trying to control the action in half guard but maia is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Royster moves out of range as maia throws a body kick.

maia tries to clinch but Royster moves out of range.

Royster keeps the fight on the outside.
maia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Royster tries to avoid it but maia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Royster to the ground. Royster escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

maia tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Royster paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Royster steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from maia. That one must have hurt.

and maia counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Royster has his foot on maia's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. maia works his way back into a safe position though.
maia throws a big right hand that misses.

Royster has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but maia can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
maia knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Royster on the ground.

Royster looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
maia will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

maia shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than maia was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
maia unloads with some shots from mount but Royster bucks and avoids them well.

Royster is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Royster tries to hold on but maia postures up.

Royster has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for maia. Oh but Royster has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! maia goes limp - he's gone! Royster jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
