The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson misses with a takedown attempt - velasquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. velasquez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. A right-left combo lands from velasquez.
It looks like Carlos Jackson has been cut. Jackson with a poor takedown and velasquez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. velasquez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! velasquez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. velasquez won't allow Jackson to sweep him here. velasquez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jackson is proving hard to escape from. velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jackson pushes velasquez off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Jackson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and velasquez counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Jackson keeping moving, preventing velasquez from controlling successfully. velasquez won't allow Jackson to get back to his feet. Jackson looking to hit a scissor sweep but velasquez is one step ahead there. velasquez wanted to stand there but Jackson had control of the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. A punch lands to the side of Jackson 's head but he takes it in his stride.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. velasquez has closed the distance and engaged Jackson in a clinch.

Jackson stands up and waves to velasquez to follow him. velasquez clinches up against the cage. velasquez lands with a short head shot on the inside. Jackson drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jackson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. velasquez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. velasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. velasquez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. velasquez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. velasquez looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. velasquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. velasquez controlling the pace for now. Jackson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from velasquez. velasquez looking to control but Jackson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Jackson wants to hold on but velasquez pushes him away. cain velasquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jackson manages to regain half guard. Good work. Jackson controlling the position well. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jackson throwing strikes but missing, from side control. velasquez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jackson's best efforts. Jackson stops velasquez from getting back to his feet.
Jackson stands up out of the half guard. velasquez shoots in and bounces Jackson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. velasquez wants to get up but he can't break Jackson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

velasquez is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Carlos Jackson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! cain velasquez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
And that's the end of the fight! Carlos Jackson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well velasquez has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today.
