PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Conway (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bobby Earl (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Conway!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Bobby Earl!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Steve Smith and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Conway misses.

Earl clinches up against the cage.
Earl's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

Earl's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Earl tries to close the distance and clinch up but Conway swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Earl shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Conway as he jumps to the side.

Earl fails with the takedown.
Jimmy Conway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bobby Earl.
Conway fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Conway shoots in but no luck this time.

Earl rushes Conway and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Conway jumps guard but Earl stands there with Conway around his waist. Conway gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Earl pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Conway looks to throw the jab but Earl is out of range.
Earl walks into a jab.
A looping hook to the body misses from Conway. Earl does a little dance to reset his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Earl tries to clinch up.

Earl clinches up with Conway and pushes him back against the cage.
Conway lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Conway.
Earl has Conway pressed against the cage, preventing Conway from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Earl tries a knee to the head but Conway blocks it.

Earl has hold of one of Conway's legs. Conway is fighting the takedown attempt but Earl gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Conway has his foot on Earl's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Earl works his way back into a safe position though.

Conway working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Earl doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Earl manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Earl thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Conway not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Earl trying to control the position from guard on top but Conway is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Earl is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Earl wants to control from the top but Conway keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Earl changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Conway looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Earl working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Earl looks gassed!

Earl is looking to take a break and control but Conway is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Earl swings around for an armbar but Conway sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Earl's guard.
Conway has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Earl manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Earl looking for a guillotine from mount but Conway is having none of it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Earl is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Conway has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Conway!
Earl avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Conway working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Conway throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Earl works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Earl seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Conway drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Conway jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Earl has his hands on Conway's head, controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bobby Earl dominated that round.
That's time! Conway's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Earl tries to clinch but Conway moves out of range.
Earl circles away from the clinch attempt.

Earl closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Conway did well to prevent Earl getting side control.
Earl not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Earl is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Conway makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Conway.
Earl trying to control but Conway is working from the bottom.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Earl throws a big right hand that misses.

Earl drops back looking for a leg! Conway is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Conway manages to kick Earl off! Earl jumps back into Conway's guard.

Earl gets to his feet. Conway looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Earl closes the distance but Conway moves to the side

and Conway counters with a nice double leg into side control. Earl won't be happy with that.

Earl sneaks back into half guard.

Earl makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Earl.
Earl pulls Conway in close to prevent any damage.
Conway won't allow Earl to sweep him here.
Earl has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Conway lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Earl has his feet on Conway's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Earl shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Conway as he avoids it easily.
A left and a right from Conway both land. Nice combination.

Earl instigates a clinch.
Earl putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Conway in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Earl connects with a knee to the head.
Earl is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Conway wants to get back to striking at distance but Earl won't allow it.
Earl is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Conway tries to break free but Earl pushes him back against the cage.
Earl jumps guard but Conway stands there with Earl around his waist. Earl gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Earl jumps guard and drags Conway to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Earl has a closed guard, preventing Conway from standing up.
Earl looking for a sweep. Not yet Earl, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jimmy Conway will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Earl counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Earl drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Earl seems to have locked his on tight now - Conway screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Earl, as he picks up the win!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Bobby Earl!
