Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Patrick Davis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Georges St Pierre! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis avoids the head kick by St Pierre.
Davis feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. St Pierre working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Davis. Davis stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. St Pierre swivels though and keeps the full guard. St Pierre tries to land a sweep but no joy. St Pierre is trying to control the position but Davis postures up. St Pierre looking to hit a scissor sweep but Davis is one step ahead there. Davis trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. St Pierre has his hands on Davis's head, controlling the position. Davis drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but St Pierre manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Davis has St Pierre in his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pierre with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Davis looking to control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Davis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Davis will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Davis looking for a sweep. Not yet Davis, not yet. St Pierre trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom. St Pierre lands a couple of elbows. St Pierre works a leg free and moves into half guard. Davis is breathing heavily. St Pierre is trying to work for a kimura but Davis is defending well.
Davis wants to control but St Pierre is keeping busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. St Pierre is looking to advance position but Davis won't allow it. St Pierre seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. St Pierre swinging wildly here.
Davis misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
St Pierre tries to clinch up but Davis circles away and keeps his distance. Davis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Davis trying to stand up but can't free himself from St Pierre's guard. Davis postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! St Pierre is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Davis, into his guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Davis working a defensive guard here.

That was a close round but I would say that Patrick Davis will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Davis is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in St Pierre's half guard. St Pierre is defending against the submission attempts here by Davis.
St Pierre is staying active underneath Davis, who seems content to just control the action from this position. St Pierre controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. St Pierre throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. St Pierre won't allow Davis to pass to mount. Davis is working hard here to advance position. St Pierre kicks Davis off and gets back to his feet. St Pierre closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Davis did well to prevent St Pierre getting side control. Davis is looking to escape. St Pierre is trying to control the action in half guard but Davis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Davis moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. St Pierre is looking to stand up but Davis won't let him.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davis is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Davis looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Davis throws a head kick that misses and St Pierre counters by clinching up. Davis is trying to drag St Pierre to the mat but St Pierre just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there. St Pierre wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Davis escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A head kick misses from St Pierre. St Pierre tries to clinch up. St Pierre shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Davis sprawls well. Davis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. St Pierre gets slowly back to his feet. Davis with a poor takedown and St Pierre counters with a nice leg kick. Davis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming St Pierre to the mat! St Pierre manages to get full guard. St Pierre wants to stand up but Davis is controlling him. Davis wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. Davis won't allow St Pierre to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Davis wants to get up but he can't break St Pierre's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. St Pierre not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
St Pierre is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. St Pierre had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Davis defends it easily. Davis is looking to work some ground and pound but St Pierre has wrist control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Patrick Davis will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Davis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Davis wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Davis checks a low kick from St Pierre. Davis gets the takedown into side control. Davis has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Davis closes the distance and clinches. St Pierre drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. St Pierre wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
St Pierre tries to break the clinch but Davis is controlling the position. Davis tries to score a body lock takedown but St Pierre shows good agility there to stay on his feet. The referee calls for St Pierre to work.

Davis jumps guard and drags St Pierre to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. St Pierre gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. St Pierre tries a head kick but it misses.
St Pierre tries to close the distance and clinch but Davis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. St Pierre bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Davis takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. St Pierre pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Davis drives through with a takedown into guard. Davis scoring with punches to the head and body. Davis wants to control from the top but St Pierre keeps moving. St Pierre wants to get back to his feet but Davis is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Davis trying to control but St Pierre is working from the bottom. St Pierre is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that's the end of the fight! Patrick Davis showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Davis, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
