0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Andrei Sherstikov! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Tarja Halkonen and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sherstikov shoots in but no luck this time. Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign! Sherstikov throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Smirnov tries to clinch up but Sherstikov circles away and keeps his distance. Sherstikov thows a left - swing and a miss! Sherstikov misses with a wild combination.
Smirnov shoots and misses and Sherstikov decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Smirnov's guard. Sherstikov must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Sherstikov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smirnov looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smirnov looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smirnov! Sherstikov tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Smirnov presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Sherstikov tries to control the position but Smirnov now has his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Sherstikov is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Smirnov is staying active. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Smirnov is hanging on to Sherstikov's back as he tries to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sherstikov should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Smirnov is working hard for the rear naked choke here.

And he's not even managing to do that successfully. We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Sherstikov has eaten all the pies! The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Sherstikov with a poor takedown and Smirnov counters with a head kick. That will keep Sherstikov thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Sherstikov shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Smirnov as he avoids it easily. Smirnov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Maks Smirnov has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andrei Sherstikov. Smirnov misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Smirnov manages to capitalize on a mistake by Sherstikov to take his back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Smirnov is not going to allow Sherstikov to sit and survive in this position. Smirnov softening up his opponent with strikes here.

Smirnov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
