PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Randolph Duke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orin Niswender (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duke comes into the arena with Pink Floyd - Money blaring out of the sound system. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Randolph Duke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Orin Niswender!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Niswender slaps away a takedown attempt from Duke, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Duke closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Duke throws a strike aimed at the side of Niswender's head but Niswender avoids it well.
Duke trying to control the position but Niswender is working away.

Duke tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Niswender is trying to improve his position.

Duke has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Duke has closed the distance and engaged Niswender in a clinch.
Duke is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Duke is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Niswender is defending well for now.

Niswender lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Duke backwards.

Duke jumps guard but Niswender stands there with Duke around his waist. Duke gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Niswender wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Duke has him pressed against the cage.
Duke changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Niswender fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Randolph Duke. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Duke takes the fight into the clinch.

Niswender trying to control the position but instead, Duke has worked for underhooks and has pushed Niswender into the cage.

Duke tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Niswender tries to circle away but Duke has him pinned against the cage.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Duke just misses with a elbow thrown towards Niswender's brow.

Duke pulls guard successfully.
Duke wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Niswender stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Duke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Niswender trying to control the position from guard on top but Duke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Niswender trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Niswender is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Duke looking for a guillotine here but Niswender defends easily.
Niswender trying to control but Duke is working from the bottom.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Niswender got a little sloppy there for a moment and Duke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Niswender has managed to get both his arms back between Duke's legs - danger averted.

Duke is looking for a triangle but Niswender pushes his legs off easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

That was a close round but I would say that Randolph Duke will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Duke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Niswender manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Duke is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Niswender keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Duke uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Niswender.
Niswender throws a body punch but Duke moves out of range.
Niswender misses with a hook. Duke ducked under it nicely.
Niswender lunges at Duke with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Duke's hand.

Duke scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Niswender is trying to maintain the position but Duke is very close to passing his half guard.

Niswender is defending against the submission attempts here by Duke.

Duke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Niswender defends it well.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Duke postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Niswender is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Duke, into his guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Randolph Duke will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Duke shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Duke is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Niswender can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Duke swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Niswender is now in Duke's guard. A big mistake from Duke there, giving up the dominant position!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Niswender takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Duke avoids a punch combination nicely.
Duke moves out of range of the strikes.
Duke throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Niswender's waist but Niswender gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Duke off to one side.
Niswender throws a looping overhand right but Duke ducks down to avoid it.
Niswender throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Niswender swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Duke bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Niswender thows a body shot but no joy.
Orin Niswender has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Duke doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
The fighters circling - Niswender throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Duke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Niswender manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

I would just about give that final round to Orin Niswender.
I think Duke has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
