Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Fidel Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cyborg Ruas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Cyborg Ruas enters the ring!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fidel Castro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cyborg Ruas!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ruas throws a series of punches but Castro avoids them all with ease.

Castro closes the distance and clinches.
Castro is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Ruas pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Castro is working Ruas over against the ropes.

Castro wants the takedown. Ruas is fighting it off but Castro persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ruas's guard against the ropes.

Ruas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Castro will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Castro missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Ruas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Castro gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Castro avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Castro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Castro knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ruas on the ground.
Castro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruas swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Castro thows a big elbow that misses.
Castro tries to stand but Ruas is controlling from the bottom.
Castro has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ruas escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Castro gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Ruas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Castro loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Ruas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Ruas looking for a sweep. Not yet Ruas, not yet.
Castro wants to control from the top but Ruas keeps moving.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Castro is really struggling to control Ruas but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Ruas tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Ruas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Castro would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Ruas looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ruas looks gassed!
Castro tries to stand but Ruas is controlling from the bottom.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Ruas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Castro can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Castro wants to pass the guard but Ruas is keeping the position.
Castro wants to control from the top but Ruas keeps moving.
Castro working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Ruas is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cyborg Ruas dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Castro throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Ruas shoots in but no luck this time.
Ruas throws a left and a right that both miss
and Castro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Castro throws a nice looking combination but Ruas bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Ruas changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Castro tries to avoid it but Ruas manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Castro to the ground. Castro escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Ruas changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Ruas misses with a body punch
enabling Castro to counter with a crisp jab.
Ruas swats away the attempt to clinch by Castro.
Ruas is breathing heavily.
A jab from Castro finds it's way through Ruas's defenses.
Castro misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Castro throws a series of punches but Ruas avoids them all with ease.
Ruas misses with a double jab
and Castro counters with a left to the body.
Ruas clobbers Castro with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Ruas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Castro's hands.
Ruas loads up on a big right hand but Castro slips the punch.
Ruas misses with a hook to the body

and Castro counters by clinching up.
Castro keeps control of Ruas as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Ruas trying to control the position but instead, Castro has worked for underhooks and has pushed Ruas into the ropes.

Castro jumps into guard, dragging Ruas to the mat.

Ruas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ruas postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Castro is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ruas, into his guard.
Castro wants to stand but Ruas is controlling his posture from full guard.
Castro is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Castro wants to control from the top but Ruas keeps moving.
Castro content to stall in guard here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ruas had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Castro defends it easily.
Castro stays in close to Ruas's body and controls the position.
Castro has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ruas is proving hard to escape from.
Castro trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Castro postures up in Ruas's guard and throws a big left but Ruas blocks it.
Castro trying to control but Ruas is working from the bottom.

Ruas is trying to keep Castro in close.
Castro stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ruas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ruas is looking for a triangle but Castro pushes his legs off easily.
Castro tries to free his leg and advance position but Ruas is retaining full guard.
Ruas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Castro's guard.

Ruas drops back looking for a leg! Castro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Castro manages to kick Ruas off! Ruas jumps back into Castro's guard.
Cyborg Ruas has got the better of the ground game so far.

Castro is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ruas is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Cyborg Ruas will probably get the nod - 10:9.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Ruas throws a predictable looking body shot

and Castro counters by moving into the clinch.
Castro wants to break free but Ruas has control.
Ruas wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Castro tries to circle away but Ruas has him pinned against the ropes.

Castro breaks the clinch.
Castro is looking to clinch.
Ruas throws a body punch but Castro moves out of range.
Castro misses with a looping left.
Ruas stuns Castro with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Ruas misses with a straight right.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Castro takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ruas rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Castro moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ruas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Castro.

Ruas drives through with a takedown into guard.
Castro is trying to keep Ruas in close.
Ruas trying to control but Castro is working from the bottom.
Ruas passes Castro's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Ruas wants to pass the guard but Castro is defending well.

Ruas is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Castro is desperately trying to improve his position but Ruas has a good base and remains in mount.
Castro tries to lock up and control but Ruas gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ruas wants to control the pace but Castro is squirming around nicely.

Ruas working for a guillotine from mount but Castro is in no mood to give up.

Ruas working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Castro is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Ruas looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Castro trying desperately to get to his feet.

Ruas is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Castro is forced to tap! Great finish!
