PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Floyd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maxwell Caldeira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Caldeira has chosen under the bridge- red hot chili peppers as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Maxwell Caldeira was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Floyd!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Caldeira!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Floyd forces Caldeira back against the cage and clinches.
Caldeira wants to break free but Floyd has control.

Floyd's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Caldeira throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Floyd was covering up waiting for the punch and Caldeira finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Caldeira stays in close to Floyd's body and controls the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I looks like Caldeira might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Floyd is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Floyd is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Caldeira is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Caldeira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Floyd swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Floyd tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Caldeira closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Floyd manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Floyd is trying to keep Caldeira in close.
Caldeira should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Floyd throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Floyd is looking to stand up but Caldeira isn't so interested in that idea.
Caldeira not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Floyd wants to get back to his feet but Caldeira is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Floyd is breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Floyd shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Caldeira holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Caldeira has eaten all the pies!
Caldeira tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Floyd smiles and moves away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Floyd doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Caldeira counters with a takedown into side control.
Caldeira tries to move to mount but Floyd blocks the move with his legs.

Caldeira stands up.
Caldeira tests Floyd's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Floyd swats away the attempt to clinch by Caldeira.

Floyd gets caught flat footed, as Caldeira shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Caldeira working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Floyd is working an open guard so Caldeira takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Caldeira closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Floyd to the mat! Floyd manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Caldeira slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Caldeira is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Floyd is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Caldeira decides to stand up, so the ref orders Floyd to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Caldeira dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Caldeira fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Floyd is out of range.
Caldeira blocks the body kick.
Caldeira tries to clinch but Floyd moves away
and Floyd counters with a head kick. That will keep Caldeira thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

and Caldeira counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Caldeira. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Caldeira working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Floyd's head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Caldeira lands a couple of elbows.
Caldeira really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Floyd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Caldeira is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Floyd controls Caldeira momentarily but Caldeira frees himself.

Caldeira stands and steps away. Floyd gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Caldeira shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Floyd is trying to defend but Caldeira finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Caldeira winds up and cracks Floyd with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Floyd is looking to control Caldeira's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Floyd avoid being mounted?

Floyd is trying to maintain the position but Caldeira is very close to passing his half guard.

Caldeira is controlling the pace.
Caldeira's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Floyd wants to get back to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Caldeira looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Floyd with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Caldeira is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Floyd!

Caldeira stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Maxwell Caldeira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Caldeira changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Floyd looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Caldeira lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Caldeira remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Floyd is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Floyd seems a little lost for a moment, as Caldeira dominates the positioning.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Maxwell Caldeira.

Caldeira shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Caldeira connects with a couple of short punches.
Floyd wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Caldeira is now in half guard.
Caldeira slips a nice elbow through Floyd's hands, connecting with Floyd's forehead.

Caldeira stands up from half guard.
Caldeira tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Floyd paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Floyd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Caldeira drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Floyd tries to buck Caldeira off but Caldeira is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Floyd's face as Caldeira controls the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee asks Caldeira politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Caldeira prefers to stall for the moment though.
Floyd is looking for a sweep.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Floyd is trying to buck Caldeira off.
Floyd tries to bench press Caldeira off him but Caldeira keeps the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Maxwell Caldeira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Caldeira winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
