Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gorlan Karelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jenni Salonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

8 - 12 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jenni Salonen! The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Karelin as Salonen shoots in. Salonen shoots in looking for a takedown. Karelin tries to sprawl out of it but Salonen keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Karelin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Karelin shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Salonen as he jumps to the side. Karelin shoots in for a takedown but Salonen shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Salonen with a lazy takedown attempt and Karelin counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Salonen! Gorlan Karelin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Salonen is looking to get to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Karelin has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Salonen's face.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Gorlan Karelin just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Salonen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Karelin's guard. Salonen looks gassed!

Karelin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Karelin is pulling down on Salonen's head to control his posture. Karelin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Karelin wants to sweep here but Salonen controlling him for the moment. Salonen tries to free his leg and advance position but Karelin is retaining full guard. Karelin manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Salonen can do anything to dispel that myth. Karelin wants to control the pace but Salonen is squirming around nicely. Salonen is looking to improve his position but Karelin isn't that keen on the idea. This has been an exciting period of action! Karelin gets back to half guard. Jenni Salonen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Karelin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. Gorlan Karelin is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Salonen is looking for a kimura here.
