Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Manny Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Deon Du Plessis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Woods comes to the cage accompanied by Jackson 5 - ABC. The crowd seem to be enjoying Du Plessis's choice of entrance music: Fort Minor - Remember the name. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Manny Woods!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Deon Du Plessis!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Du Plessis fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Du Plessis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Woods. That did some damage!
Woods fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Du Plessis manages to avoid it.
Du Plessis staying out of range there.
Woods keeps the fight on the outside.
Woods cracks Du Plessis with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Woods remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Du Plessis wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Woods is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Du Plessis will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Woods seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Du Plessis for as long as he can get away with.

and Woods counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Woods is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Du Plessis is still in real trouble! Can Woods finish him?
Woods is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Woods cracks Du Plessis with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Manny Woods.

Woods is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Du Plessis closes the distance looking to clinch
and Woods counters with a crisp right that sends Du Plessis to the canvas! Woods follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!
