Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kenny Gripp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Renzo Ahrun (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kenny Gripp has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kenny Gripp! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Renzo Ahrun! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gripp wants to clinch up but Ahrun keeps it at a distance. Ahrun will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Gripp is looking to clinch. Ahrun feints and as Gripp raises his hands in defense, Ahrun changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Gripp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Ahrun wants to get up but he can't break Gripp's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Gripp wants to sweep here but Ahrun controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ahrun stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gripp swivels though and keeps the full guard. Gripp pushes Ahrun off and gets back to his feet.
Gripp tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ahrun swats him away and circles back towards the center.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ahrun tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gripp swivels and escapes. Gripp gets a clinch. Gripp is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Ahrun has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Gripp is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Gripp leaning his opponent against the cage. Gripp is looking to control Ahrun's arms but Ahrun gets an underhook and turns him. Now Gripp has his back to the cage. Ahrun jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gripp walks away with a smile on his face. Ahrun gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Kenny Gripp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renzo Ahrun. Gripp tries to clinch up. Gripp wants to clinch up but Ahrun keeps it at a distance. Gripp doesn't manage to clinch there - Ahrun circles away.
Ahrun tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Ahrun circles away from the clinch attempt and Ahrun decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Gripp's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gripp has his foot on Ahrun's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ahrun works his way back into a safe position though. Ahrun wants to control from the top but Gripp keeps moving. Gripp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ahrun can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Gripp looking to control.
Ahrun must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Ahrun wants to pass the guard but Gripp is keeping the position. Ahrun working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Gripp manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ahrun manages to get himself to full guard.
Gripp tries to free his leg and advance position but Ahrun is retaining full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Renzo Ahrun dominated that round. That's time! Gripp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Ahrun fails to land the takedown. Gripp clinches but Ahrun breaks the clinch and Ahrun counters with a single leg into guard. Gripp didn't expect that. Ahrun postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Gripp is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ahrun, into his guard. Gripp scoring with punches to the head and body. Ahrun is breathing heavily. Gripp is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ahrun is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ahrun has escaped and now he's on top!
That's one minute gone in the round. Gripp throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Gripp is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched. Ahrun drags the fight down to the ground.
Gripp drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ahrun manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Gripp has Ahrun in his guard. Gripp really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gripp is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Gripp looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Ahrun puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gripp is looking to improve his position.
Ahrun gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Ahrun fails to land the takedown. Gripp tries to clinch but Ahrun moves away and Ahrun holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Gripp tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Ahrun avoids it. Ahrun tries to pull guard but Gripp holds him up against the cage and eventually Ahrun drops back down to his feet.
Kenny Gripp has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Renzo Ahrun. Gripp tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Knees in the clinch landing for Gripp.
Gripp is looking to break free of the clinch but Ahrun has double underhooks. Ahrun drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Gripp gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Gripp is pressed up against the cage. Ahrun has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gripp down to the mat. Gripp avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Gripp closes the distance but Ahrun moves to the side and Ahrun counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ahrun. Ahrun advances to half guard. Ahrun tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Gripp trying to hold on to Ahrun's head to control him but Ahrun postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Renzo Ahrun showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Gripp looks to clinch and Ahrun counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Gripp is trying to get back to full guard. Gripp is trying to maintain the position but Ahrun is very close to passing his half guard. Ahrun takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Gripp is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are battling for position here. Gripp manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Gripp wants to control the position but Ahrun says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Ahrun sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gripp defending well though. Kenny Gripp has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Ahrun trying to control the action but Gripp is working from the bottom. Ahrun is looking to stall here but Gripp recovers full guard. Gripp has a closed guard, preventing Ahrun from standing up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ahrun wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Gripp's closed guard. He's half up but Gripp has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Gripp pivots and extends the arm, Ahrun falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Gripp! Well done that man!
