Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mauricio Rizzo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Malik Howard! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Howard blocks a jab. Horrible takedown by Howard or perhaps it was just good defense by Rizzo which made him look bad. Howard shoots in but no luck this time. Howard closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Rizzo pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. The crowd cheers as Rizzo lands an impressive looking overhand right. Howard doesn't seem phased though. Rizzo scores with a punch to the head. Rizzo slips a jab and a cross from Howard.
Rizzo lands a slapping body shot.
Howard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Rizzo takes a swing at Howard's ribcage but misses. Howard tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rizzo paws at him with a jab and circles away. Howard shoots for a double leg takedown but Rizzo sprawls well. He's pushed Howard's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Mauricio Rizzo has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Malik Howard. Howard takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Howard looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Howard takes one on the button. Mauricio Rizzo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rizzo scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Rizzo uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Howard has time to react. Rizzo fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Howard looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rizzo throws a nice looking combination but Howard bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Rizzo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Howard. Rizzo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Rizzo scores with a nice strike.
It looks like Malik Howard has been cut. Rizzo feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Howard sprawling to the canvas! Howard rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Rizzo finish him?!
Howard is rocked! Rizzo lands a nice shot to the body.
Howard is still on wobbly legs! Can Rizzo finish him? Rizzo drops Howard with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Howard! Rizzo dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mauricio Rizzo!
