PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Paul Lassiter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Red Runner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lassiter kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Hey Superstar - Madina Lake. Runner has chosen Sweet Ride as his entrance music. Lassiter is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Paul Lassiter has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Red Runner!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Jorge Garcia and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Runner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Lassiter is breathing heavily.
Runner is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Runner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lassiter. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Red Runner.
Runner looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lassiter is fending him off so far but Runner persists. Nope, Lassiter circles away and we're back to standing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lassiter doesn't manage to clinch there - Runner circles away.
Lassiter lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Runner misses with a wild combination.
Runner lands a nice shot that snaps Lassiter's head back.
Runner lands with a shot to the body.
Lassiter takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Runner looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Lassiter is looking to escape.

Lassiter pushes Runner off and gets back to his feet.
Runner goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Lassiter tries to clinch but Runner moves out of range.
Runner looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Lassiter tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Runner keeps the fight on the outside.
Runner throws a right hand that Lassiter ducks under and follows up with a left that Lassiter also avoids with ease.
Runner throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Runner fails with the takedown.
Paul Lassiter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Red Runner.
Lassiter slaps away a takedown attempt from Runner, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Runner connects with a right hand. Lassiter shakes it off.

Lassiter throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Lassiter is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Runner is controlling him.

Lassiter thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Runner landing with the ground and pound.
Lassiter is looking to stand up but Runner isn't so interested in that idea.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Runner shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Runner controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Lassiter looking for a sweep. Not yet Lassiter, not yet.
Runner's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Runner won't allow Lassiter to get back to his feet.
Lassiter trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Runner wants to pass the guard but Lassiter is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Lassiter is on top in guard.
Lassiter postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red Runner dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Runner changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Lassiter looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Runner wants to control but Lassiter is keeping him busy.
Runner throws an elbow but Lassiter slips to the side and avoids it well.
Runner trying to control the action but Lassiter is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lassiter tries to escape but Runner is in control.

You can see the frustration on Lassiter's face as Runner controls the position.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Runner closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lassiter circles away.
Runner scores with a nice right hand.

Runner closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Lassiter to the mat! Lassiter manages to get full guard.
Runner is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Runner won't allow Lassiter to get back to his feet.
Lassiter wants to sweep but no luck.
Runner wanted to stand there but Lassiter had control of the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Lassiter takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Runner moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Lassiter wants to clinch.

Runner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lassiter is trying to defend but Runner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Runner perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Lassiter manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Lassiter stuffs the takedown.
Runner shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lassiter but Lassiter pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Runner shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Lassiter has one foot on Runner's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Runner keeps the fight on the outside.

Runner shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lassiter is trying to defend but Runner finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Lassiter flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.

Lassiter kicks Runner off and gets back to his feet.
Runner shoots for a double leg takedown but Lassiter sprawls well. He's pushed Runner's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Runner counters with a straight right hand.
Lassiter tries to clinch but Runner moves away
and Runner cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Runner shoots in but no luck this time.

Runner shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Runner prevents Lassiter from improving his position.
Runner seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red Runner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Runner uses his free foot to push down on Lassiter's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Lassiter.
You get the feeling that Lassiter really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Runner sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Runner can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Lassiter is looking to escape.
Lassiter sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Lassiter tries to kick Runner off but Runner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Runner is trying to control the action in half guard but Lassiter is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Runner prevents Lassiter from standing back up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Lassiter doesn't manage to clinch there - Runner circles away.
Paul Lassiter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Runner thuds a left hand into Lassiter's body.

Runner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Lassiter is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Runner's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Runner wants to stand but Lassiter has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Runner wants to free his trapped foot but Lassiter is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Runner wants to get up but he can't break Lassiter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Lassiter throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Lassiter pushes Runner off and scrambles back to his feet.
Red Runner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lassiter throws a combination that misses
letting Runner counter with a right hand.
Runner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lassiter's waist but Lassiter gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Runner off to one side.
Lassiter tries to clinch up.

Runner closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Runner trying to control the action but Lassiter is working from the bottom.
Runner content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Lassiter is looking to reverse the position.
Runner avoids the strikes from the bottom by Lassiter.

Red Runner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
