PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between King God (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Villar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Villar has chosen Deuces as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, King God!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chris Villar!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Villar throws a nice looking combination but God bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
God dives in and grabs Villar's left leg, looking for a takedown. Villar pushes down on God's head and hops out.
God stuffs the takedown.
Villar throws a series of punches but God avoids them all with ease.

God looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Villar!
God controlling his opponent.
God has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Villar blocking the ground and pound.

That's one minute gone in the round.

God jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Villar manages to avoid the submission attempt.

God wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Villar, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
God trying to control the action but Villar is working from the bottom.
God tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

God stands up and beckons Villar to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Villar gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
God is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Villar pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Villar misses with a knee to the head.
God is trying to break the clinch but Villar has him pressed against the cage.

Villar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Villar has closed the distance and engaged God in a clinch.
Villar changes levels and goes for a takedown here. God fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Villar misses with a wild combination.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
God fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for King God. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Villar throws a left that rocks God and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Villar dives into side control, looking to finish! Can God regain composure!


It looks like King God has been cut.
God is breathing heavily.
God sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Villar missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
God is trying to maintain the position but Villar is very close to passing his half guard.
God blocking the ground and pound attempt from Villar.
God makes his way to full guard. A much better position for God.
God wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Villar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on King God's cut.
That's time! God's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The fight stays on the outside here - Villar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

God moves into the clinch.
Villar wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Villar drags the fight down to the ground.
Villar being controlled here, momentarily.
Villar keeping moving, preventing God from controlling successfully.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of King God.
A chopping leg kick lands by God.
God fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
God tries to clinch but Villar moves out of range.
God misses with a body kick.
Villar fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but God avoids it really well and circles away.

Villar on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Villar stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Villar wants it to stay on the feet.
Villar swats away the attempt to clinch by God.

God closes the distance and clinches.
God has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Villar avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for King God. That's going to take a lot out of him.
God wants to break the clinch but can't.
God tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Villar tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. God just stands there and leans against the cage.

Villar gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Villar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Villar with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
God is looking to stand up but Villar isn't so interested in that idea.
Villar lands a couple of digs.
Villar postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
God is trying to control the position from the bottom.

God uses the cage to get back to his feet.
King God is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

God closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
God is keen to just control but Villar is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that King God will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on King God's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

God tries to pull guard but Villar holds him up against the cage and eventually God drops back down to his feet.

Villar prevents God from breaking the clinch.

Villar lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
God trying to control but Villar postures up.
God makes his way to full guard. A much better position for God.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Villar distracts God with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Villar looking to pass the guard.
God pulls Villar in close to prevent any damage.

God utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
God is trying to control the position but Villar postures up.
Villar loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
God looking to hit a scissor sweep but Villar is one step ahead there.
Villar scoring with some ground and pound.
Villar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

God closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Villar did well to prevent God getting side control.
God perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
God trying to control from half guard but Villar is working away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

God seems to be looking for submissions.
Villar makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Villar.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Villar keeping moving, preventing God from controlling successfully.
Godis looking to pass into half guard but Villar pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Villar is in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Villar with a flurry of punches that miss.
God pulls Villar in close to his closed guard and prevents Villar from doing any damage or advancing position.
Villar throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to King God.
I think God has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
