Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Gregory St Pierre! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ian Mcdonald! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! St Pierre slaps away a takedown attempt from Mcdonald, before circling back to the center of the mat. St Pierre gets the takedown into side control. Mcdonald is trying to control St Pierre's posture but St Pierre avoids it. St Pierre working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. St Pierre tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. St Pierre lands some shots froms side control. Mcdonald is trying to control St Pierre's posture but St Pierre avoids it. Mcdonald tries to improve position but can't. St Pierre misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Mcdonald fails with the takedown and St Pierre counters with a lovely straight right hand! Mcdonald takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
St Pierre fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Mcdonald sprawls well initially but St Pierre persists and gets the takedown into half guard. St Pierre is looking to take a break and control but Mcdonald is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Mcdonald throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
St Pierre seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Mcdonald does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. St Pierre seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mcdonald misses with a takedown so St Pierre counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Gregory St Pierre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ian Mcdonald. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mcdonald not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

St Pierre's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. St Pierre is squirming around, avoiding Mcdonald's attempts to control the action. St Pierre knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mcdonald on the ground. Mcdonald landing punches. Mcdonald takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. St Pierre is looking to get to half guard. Mcdonald has his takedown stuffed and St Pierre counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Mcdonald shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with St Pierre but St Pierre pushes him off and we're back to square one. Mcdonald misses with a takedown attempt and St Pierre connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Gregory St Pierre has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. Mcdonald gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and St Pierre counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mcdonald shoots in but no luck this time. Mcdonald shoots and misses and St Pierre counters with a straight right hand. St Pierre scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. St Pierre controls the position from side control. St Pierre working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.

Mcdonald controlling the pace for now. Mcdonald lands a heavy elbow. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mcdonald throwing strikes here but St Pierre is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Mcdonald won't let St Pierre get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. St Pierre tries to lock up and control but Mcdonald gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Mcdonald has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
