The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves has taken the fight to the clinch.
Alves tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Hicks smiles and moves away.
Hicks misses with a double jab.
Alves moves into range and clinches up with Hicks.
Alves breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Alves doesn't manage to clinch there - Hicks circles away.
Alves fails with a takedown attempt.
Hicks looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Bill Hicks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Alves tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Alves tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Hicks paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Alves works over Hicks's head and body with a nice combination.

Hicks connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Alves! He's out on his feet! Hicks rushes in and drops Alves with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
