PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Riley Charles (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Mordor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Charles might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to The Downfall Of Us All. Max Mordor told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Riley Charles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Max Mordor!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Charles tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mordor was well out of range. Poor timing from Charles.
Charles tries to close the distance and clinch but Mordor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Charles tries to clinch up.
Charles throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mordor's waist but Mordor gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Charles off to one side.

Mordor changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Charles looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Charles is trying to get back to half guard.

Mordor tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mordor has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mordor is looking to take a break and control but Charles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Charles is looking to regain half guard here but Mordor keeps moving and retains side control.

Mordor has control of an arm but Charles manages to advance to Mordor's back!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mordor looks like he's trying to stand up.
Charles stalling away here and it's allowed Mordor to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Mordor wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

and Mordor counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Mordor fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Charles sprawls well initially but Mordor persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Mordor is looking to take a break and control but Charles is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Charles holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Mordor is looking for a kimura here.
Charles moves into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Mordor dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Charles shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Charles showed some decent athleticism there.
Charles perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Mordor is not content to let Charles control the position.
Mordor is looking to improve his position.
Mordor is breathing heavily.
Mordor is trying to stand back up but Charles is controlling him

Charles working over Mordor with some ground and pound. Mordor looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Charles is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Mordor is not content to let Charles control the position.
Charles is taking a breather. Mordor says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Charles wants to free his trapped foot but Mordor is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Mordor is defending against the submission attempts here by Charles.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Charles slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Riley Charles.
Charles fails with the takedown

and Mordor counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Charles manages to get to full guard.
Mordor trying to control the position from guard on top but Charles is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Charles lands a decent punch to the body there.
Mordor working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Charles is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Mordor is aware though and is defending well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Mordor is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Mordor drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Charles manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mordor has Charles in his guard.

Riley Charles dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Charles closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mordor did well to prevent Charles getting side control.

Charles is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Mordor defends it well.
Charles is keen to just control but Mordor is a slippery customer.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Riley Charles.
I think Charles has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
