Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Thorn! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ignatius Reilly! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Columbo Gatti and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Reilly connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. A chopping leg kick lands by Reilly. Reilly moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Thorn shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Reilly defends it nicely. Ignatius Reilly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Reilly fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Reilly feints and then cracks Thorn's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Thorn down. Reilly tries to clinch but Thorn is having none of it. Thorn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Reilly manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Reilly is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Reilly avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Thorn is looking to work some ground and pound but Reilly has wrist control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Thorn throwing strikes but missing. Reilly controlling Thorn's posture. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Reilly can do anything to dispel that myth. Reilly looking to control.
Ignatius Reilly has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Reilly tries to land a leg kick but Thorn saw it coming and moves away.
Reilly tries to score with a low kick but Thorn moves his leg out of the way. A nice inside leg kick there by Reilly. That's going to slow Thorn down. Reilly turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick. A combination from Thorn does no damage. Reilly scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Thorn is breathing heavily. Thorn takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reilly tries to close the distance and clinch up but Thorn swats him away and circles back towards the center. Reilly throws a nice outside leg kick. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Thorn chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Reilly can pounce on him.
Reilly scores with a kick to the midsection. Good leg kick by Reilly there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Ignatius Reilly is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Reilly fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Thorn. Reilly lets loose with a powerful body kick. Thorn will feel that in the morning. Thorn takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Reilly connects with a solid leg kick. Reilly throws a head kick that misses. Reilly thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Thorn if he has to take too many more of those.
Reilly bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Reilly throws a nice inside leg kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reilly keeps Thorn at a distance using the push kick. No joy there for Reilly, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Thorn avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Reilly dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Thorn. That did some damage! Thorn takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Reilly chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Thorn takes a head kick and keeps coming.
It looks like Mike Thorn has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Reilly scores with a jab to the head.
An inside leg kick lands from Reilly. Reilly lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Reilly circles to his right before unloading a perfect head kick! Thorn drops to the canvas, hurt badly! Reilly follows Thorn to the ground and unloads with a series of strikes that force the referee to step in and end the fight! This one is all over!
