PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quinton Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Terry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Terry has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Quinton Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Terry!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackson rushes Terry and presses him up against the cage.
Jackson tries to pull guard but Terry holds him up against the cage and eventually Jackson drops back down to his feet.
Jackson blocks an uppercut.

Jackson turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Terry is not content to let Jackson control the position.
Jackson tries to advance position but instead Terry slips a leg back in to half guard.
Jackson tries to stand and escape but Terry is controlling the position.
Jackson is keen to just control but Terry is a slippery customer.
Terry looks gassed!
Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jackson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Jackson is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Terry pushes Jackson off and gets back to his feet.

Terry tries to pull guard but Jackson won't allow it.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jackson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Terry tries to throw a body punch but Jackson avoids it by throwing Terry back against the cage.
Jackson makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.

Jackson stuffs the takedown attempt from Terry. Terry gets slowly back to his feet.
Jackson lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Jackson.

It looks like Mike Terry has been cut.
Jackson throws a combination. Terry tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Jackson throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jackson stuns Terry with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Jackson gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Jackson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Terry defends it well.
Jackson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Terry is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Jackson scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jackson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Jackson is trying to control. Terry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Terry is staying active underneath Jackson, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Terry wants to get back to his feet.

Jackson wants to work for an arm triangle but Terry is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Jackson closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Terry keeps the fight on the outside.

Jackson drives through and clinches with Terry against the cage.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Jackson feints and as Terry raises his hands in defense, Jackson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jackson wanted to stand there but Terry had control of the position.
Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Terry is retaining full guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Terry wants to stand and escape but Jackson is having none of it.

Jackson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Jackson lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Mike Terry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jackson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Terry paws at him with a jab and circles away.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
