PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jeremy Bush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kelly Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kelly Wells told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeremy Bush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kelly Wells!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Valeri Chadov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wells throws a looping overhand right but Bush ducks down to avoid it.
Wells slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Wells throws a one two combo.
Wells misses with a wild body shot.
Bush walks into a jab.
Bush attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Bush shoots in but no luck this time.
Wells will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wells misses with an uppercut.
Wells's corner calls for a 1-2. Wells obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Horrible takedown by Bush or perhaps it was just good defense by Wells which made him look bad.
Bush shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Wells defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeremy Bush. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wells throws a lazy right hand but Bush sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Wells defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Bush.
Bush shoots in but no luck this time.

Wells gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bush chips away with some ground and pound.

Bush changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wells tries to avoid it but Bush manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wells to the ground. Wells escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wells lands with a nice body punch.
Wells lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bush circles away quickly and effectively.
Bush fails with the takedown.
Good exchange - Wells coming out on top.
Wells scores with a jab. Bush acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Wells thuds a left hand into Bush's body.
Bush is breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wells works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Bush closes the distance and clinches up with Wells, looking for a takedown. Bush pushes Wells against the cage but Wells circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wells throws out a loose jab but Bush uses good head movement to avoid it.
Bush fails with a takedown attempt.
Wells looks to land a combination but Bush avoids it well.
A combination from Wells does no damage.
Wells swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Wells lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Jeremy Bush has been cut.
Bush blocks a jab.

Wells misses with a series of wild punches.

Bush shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Wells is trying to get back to full guard.

Bush stalling away here and it's allowed Wells to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Bush has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Bush postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

You can see the frustration on Wells's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Wells can do anything to dispel that myth.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bush connects with a nice short shot to Wells's temple.

Bush lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Bush slips a nice elbow through Wells's hands, connecting with Wells's forehead.

and Bush takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Bush is trying hard to land a takedown here. Wells sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bush misses with a double jab.
Wells stalks Bush and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Bush's face. Bush staggers backwards, shaken.
Bush lands a nice hook to Wells's body. Wells takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Bush closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Bush tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Bush has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bush tries for a kimura but Wells is defending well.

Bush goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Wells rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bush's guard! Nice work there by Wells!

Bush has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Wells off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bush shoots in for a takedown but Wells shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kelly Wells seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Wells looks to land a left hand but Bush moved out of range nicely.

Bush throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wells was covering up waiting for the punch and Bush finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Bush has gone for a leg lock! Wells slips out almost immediately though and dives into Bush's guard.

Bush wants to get back to his feet but Wells is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wells trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bush manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bush works over Wells with some ground and pound from guard.
Bush tries to free his leg and advance position but Wells is retaining full guard.

Bush drops back, looking for a kneebar! Wells looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Wells looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Wells!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wells tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Kelly Wells.
I think Wells has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
