Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Brent Savage! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Oscar De La Riva! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De La Riva slips under a jab from Savage. De La Riva gets cracked there but stands up to it.
De La Riva avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Savage misses with a looping right. De La Riva moves away from the strike by Savage. Savage slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Brent Savage seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Savage connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Savage misses with a looping left. De La Riva shoots in looking for a takedown. Savage tries to sprawl out of it but De La Riva keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Savage manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Savage misses with an uppercut. Savage lands a straight punch to the body, keeping De La Riva at a distance.
Nice defenses there by De La Riva. De La Riva ducks under a wild hook from Savage. De La Riva displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Savage throws out the jab. Savage misses with a straight right. De La Riva gets a clinch. Savage missing with knees to the body.
Savage gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from De La Riva.
Savage has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. De La Riva is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Savage prevents a takedown attempt there.
Brent Savage has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Oscar De La Riva. De La Riva ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. De La Riva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Savage will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. De La Riva is looking for a triangle but Savage pushes his legs off easily.
Savage throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Savage is breathing heavily. Savage missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. De La Riva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Savage content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. De La Riva looking for a guillotine here but Savage defends easily.
Savage throwing strikes but missing. De La Riva has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Savage can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. De La Riva keeping moving, preventing Savage from controlling successfully. De La Riva working a defensive guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. De La Riva is looking for a triangle but Savage pushes his legs off easily.
De La Riva looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
De La Riva is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Savage postures up in De La Riva's guard and throws a big left but De La Riva blocks it. De La Riva looking to hit a scissor sweep but Savage is one step ahead there. De La Riva has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. De La Riva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Savage is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but De La Riva has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Savage is looking to defend but De La Riva has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Savage! De La Riva pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Savage taps out and this one is all over!
