Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Hopp! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Emilie Lamont! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Dillan Fox and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lamont rushes Hopp and presses him up against the cage. Lamont wants the takedown. Hopp is fighting it off but Lamont persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Hopp's guard against the cage. Hopp working a defensive guard here.
Hopp looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lamont is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Lamont postures up in Hopp's guard and throws a big left but Hopp blocks it. Hopp looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Lamont puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Hopp is looking for a sweep. Lamont is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hopp tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Lamont has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Lamont controlling from the full mount. Hopp bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
That's one minute gone in the round. Lamont can't keep his opponent in guard - Hopp advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Lamont wants to get back to full guard. Lamont blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hopp. Hopp sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lamont defending well though. Lamont desperately trying to maintain half guard. Lamont blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hopp. Lamont avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Hopp. Lamont trying to control but Hopp postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lamont shoots in and drives through. Hopp sprawls well. Hopp scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hopp is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Hopp seems to be working for a kimura but Lamont defends the submission attempt. Hopp wants to free his trapped foot but Lamont is holding on for dear life with his legs. Lamont is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hopp's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hopp's back! Hopp breaks Lamont's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hopp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lamont swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lamont managing to control the position. Hopp trying to control but Lamont is working from the bottom. Lamont wants to sweep here but Hopp controlling him for the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lamont is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Lamont perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Hopp trying to control from the bottom.
Lamont content to control rather than advance. Lamont is trying to control the action in half guard but Hopp is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Hopp tries to get to full guard but Lamont has control of the leg. Lamont slows the pace down in half guard. Lamont looks gassed! Hopp is looking to improve his position.
Hopp trying to hold on to Lamont's head to control him but Lamont postures up.
Hopp is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lamont shoots and misses and Hopp counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lamont! Hopp jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lamont manages to avoid the submission attempt. Lamont sneaks back into half guard. Lamont preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Hopp stalling away here and it's allowed Lamont to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Hopp wants to control from the top but Lamont keeps moving. Lamont keeping full guard, as Hopp tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hopp lands a couple of digs. Lamont has Hopp pulled in close to control his posture. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Michael Hopp will probably get the nod. That's time! Hopp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Lamont closes the distance and clinches. Hopp turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Hopp manages to end up in side control. Hopp is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lamont knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Lamont struggling a bit here. Lamont is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Hopp seems to be working for a kimura but Lamont defends the submission attempt. Hopp wants to free his trapped foot but Lamont is holding on for dear life with his legs. Lamont is trying to get back to full guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Lamont gets back to full guard.
Hopp trying to control the position from guard on top but Lamont is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lamont looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hopp is one step ahead there. Lamont trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Lamont wants to sweep but no luck.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Lamont doesn't succeed with the takedown and Hopp counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lamont! Lamont defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hopp. Lamont is in all sorts of trouble here.
Hopp has control of Lamont's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Lamont regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Michael Hopp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hopp wants to sweep here but Lamont controlling him for the moment. Hopp wants to improve his position but instead Lamont has moved into half guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Hopp gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Hopp has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lamont can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Lamont sitting in guard here, content to control.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lamont avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hopp controls Lamont momentarily but Lamont frees himself. Lamont must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Lamont sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Hopp's guard. Hopp wants to sweep but Lamont has passed to side control! Lamont takes a little break here. Hopp wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Let's hope that Lamont has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Hopp tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Lamont presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Emilie Lamont will probably get the nod - 10:9. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Horrible takedown by Hopp or perhaps it was just good defense by Lamont which made him look bad. Emilie Lamont seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lamont throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hopp counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Lamont is trying to get back to full guard. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lamont can do anything to dispel that myth. Lamont has hold of Hopp's hands but Hopp slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Hopp throwing shots but Lamont is blocking nicely. Hopp performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Hopp trying to control from half guard but Lamont is working away. Hopp tries to pass to full mount but Lamont defends it. Lamont has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hopp is working away from the top position though. Hopp seems to be working for a kimura but Lamont defends the submission attempt.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hopp changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lamont tries to avoid it but Hopp manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lamont to the ground. Lamont escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopp showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Lamont.
The fighters circling - Lamont throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Lamont tries for a takedown but Hopp circles away easily and Hopp counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lamont won't be happy with that. Lamont tries to buck Hopp off but Hopp is having none of it. Hopp is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Lamont has escaped the position, nice work there. Lamont can't do much from the bottom here. Lamont is looking to reverse the position. Hopp tries to move to mount but Lamont blocks the move with his legs. Hopp looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Hopp is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Lamont is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Hopp gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Lamont counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Hopp's guard now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Hopp. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hopp tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hopp thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Hopp looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Lamont is defending well. Hopp quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Lamont has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Hopp celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
