PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Travis Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yin Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Social Suicide. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Travis Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yin Yang!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yukihiro Shimada and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Yang.
Yang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Yang tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Yang gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Jones holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jones pulls guard effortlessly.
Yang not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jones is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Yang is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yang wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Yang throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Jones works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Yang is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones wants to stand up but Yang is controlling him.
Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Yang shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Yang closes the distance but Jones moves to the side
and Jones counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Yang goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Jones keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Yang wants to clinch but Jones slips to the side
and Jones counters with a head kick. That will keep Yang thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Jones has his takedown stuffed
and Yang counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Travis Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones throws a series of punches but Yang avoids them all with ease.
Yang closes the distance looking to clinch

and Jones counters by moving into the clinch.
Yang is working for takedown but Jones is calmly controlling the position for now.

Jones's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Yang throws a head kick that misses.

Jones feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jones postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Jones is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Yang wants to stand but Jones is controlling the position.
Yang keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Yang is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Jones wants to control from the top but Yang keeps moving.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Yang steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Jones. That one must have hurt.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Yang tries to clinch but Jones moves away

and Jones counters with a takedown into side control.
Yang is being controlled here.
Yang tries to buck Jones off but Jones is having none of it.
Yang is not content to let Jones control the position.
Yang is looking for a sweep.
Yang is breathing heavily.
Yang sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Jones wants to control but Yang is keeping him busy.
Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Yang is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Yang is trying to stand.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Yang looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Jones decides to stand back up. Jones steps back and let's Yang get back to his feet.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yang's waist but Yang gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Yang darts in trying to clinch

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Yang won't be happy with that.
Jones wants to control but Yang is keeping him busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yang is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Jones has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Yang pushes Jones away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jones gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Yang manages to work his way to half guard, despite Jones's best efforts.
Yang tries to kick Jones off but Jones keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.
Yang flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Jones works his way into side control.
Yang is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Jones tries to move into full mount but can't pass Yang's legs.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yang tries to escape but Jones is in control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jones stands up and beckons Yang to his feet.
Yang looks to clinch

and Jones counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jones.
Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Yang lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jones!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Yang is looking to stand up but Jones isn't so interested in that idea.

Jones wants to control from the top but Yang keeps moving.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Jones won't allow Yang to get back to his feet.
Yang keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Jones goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Yang throws a head kick but Jones moves out of range.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yang circles away.
Travis Jones is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones tries to stand but his arm is trapped.

Yang pushes Jones off and gets back to his feet.

and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. Yang didn't expect that.

Yang is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Yin Yang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Travis Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
