Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Britney Spears! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hajime Saito! The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Saito throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Saito looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Saito ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Spears misses with a two punch combination.
Saito slips under a jab from Spears. Saito looks to score with a jab to the body but Spears is just out of range. Saito thows a body shot but no joy. Saito swings for the body but Spears moves out of range.
Saito closes the distance and clinches up with Spears, looking for a takedown. Saito pushes Spears against the ropes but Spears circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Saito misses the jab. Spears swinging wildly here.
Spears avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A cross from Saito lands. Spears takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Saito closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Saito lands in his opponent's guard. Saito stays in close to Spears's body and controls the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Saito wants to control from the top but Spears keeps moving. Spears on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Spears tries to get out of the position. Saito wants to pass the guard but Spears is keeping the position. Saito slips nicely into half guard. Saito works his way into full mount! Saito trying to control but he's not successful this time. Saito fails to take his opponent's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Saito working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Spears looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Saito! Submission of the night perhaps?
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Hajime Saito! Hajime Saito is the new middleweight champion!
