Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jacobs Sons! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Wilson Arruna! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Trevor Gratis and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sons darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Arruna looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Sons is looking to advance position but Arruna won't allow it. Arruna looking for submissions off his back. Arruna actively working from the bottom here. Arruna is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Arruna looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Arruna looks gassed! Sons wants to take a breather but Arruna is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sons not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Arruna is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Sons scores with a couple of nice shots. Sons trying to control from half guard but Arruna is working away. Arruna tries to roll over but Sons keeps him under control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Sons thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Arruna if he has to take too many more of those.
Sons shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Arruna manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Sons stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Arruna swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sons sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Arruna's guard. Sons is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Arruna defends it well. Sons is keen to just control but Arruna is a slippery customer. Sons is figuring out what he wants to do next. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Sons is pressing down on Arruna's thigh, looking to free his foot. Arruna is holding on for now. Sons is looking to take a break and control but Arruna is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sons is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Arruna is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Arruna gets back to full guard.
Sons is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Arruna has a closed guard, preventing Sons from standing up. Sons is posturing up here but Arruna has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Sons tries to roll out but it's too tight and Sons has to tap! Slick submission there by Arruna!
