PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sutton Ripley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Vallely (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ripley's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Danzig - Hand Of Doom. Vallely has chosen CKY - 96 Quite Bitter Beings as his entrance music. Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Sutton Ripley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Vallely!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Paul Tew and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripley tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Ripley throws a series of punches but Vallely avoids them all with ease.
Ripley misses with a series of wild punches.

Vallely shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Vallely showed some decent athleticism there.
Vallely throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Vallely stops Ripley from getting back to his feet.
Vallely tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ripley knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Vallely trying to advance position but Ripley counters by regaining guard.
Vallely postures up and lands a big shot to Ripley's brow.

Ripley wants to stand and escape but Vallely is having none of it.
Vallely throws and elbow that misses. Ripley uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Vallely's guard. Nice move by Ripley!
Vallely is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ripley looks like he's trying to stand up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vallely slows the pace down in half guard.
Vallely throwing shots but Ripley is blocking nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Vallely seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ripley looks like he's trying to stand up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Vallely in particular looking to stall.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Vallely stalling away here and it's allowed Ripley to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vallely accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ripley is looking to stand up but Vallely isn't so interested in that idea.
Vallely has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vallely drops back looking for a leg! Ripley is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ripley manages to kick Vallely off! Vallely jumps back into Ripley's guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ripley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vallely is controlling him.
Vallely loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vallely wants to control from the top but Ripley keeps moving.
Vallely lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Ripley's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ripley fails to land with a series of punches.
Nice body punch from Vallely.
Ripley throws a shot from downtown. Vallely moves away and avoids it.
Ripley tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vallely paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Vallely will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Vallely fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Ripley can't break the clinch.
Vallely tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Sutton Ripley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Vallely.
Ripley tries to circle away but Vallely has him pinned against the cage.

Vallely wriggles free and stands up.
Ripley misses with a wild combination.
Vallely fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Vallely changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ripley tries to avoid it but Vallely manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ripley to the ground. Ripley escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Vallely counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Vallely postures up in Ripley's guard and throws a big left but Ripley blocks it.
Vallely wants to pass the guard but Ripley is keeping the position.
Ripley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Vallely is controlling him.

Vallely wants to pass the guard but Ripley is keeping the position.
Ripley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Ripley is looking to stand back up but Vallely counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Ripley.
Still in half guard, Vallely seems content to control.

Vallely is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ripley is trying to stand.
Vallely is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vallely throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Vallely trying to control from half guard but Ripley is working away.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mike Vallely.
Vallely moves out of range of the strikes.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vallely.
Vallely misses with a two punch combination.

Mike Vallely showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Vallely has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Ripley's face.
Vallely pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Vallely with shots to the head and body - Ripley looks very uncomfortable down there.

Vallely looking to secure an arm triangle but Ripley defends it well.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

You get the feeling that Ripley really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Vallely controlling his opponent.
Vallely is landing with some decent strikes but Ripley is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Ripley is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
