Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rusty Trombone! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bubba Fett! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fett shoots in for a takedown but Trombone shows good takedown defense. Trombone throws the left hand but Fett avoids the punch easily. Fett fails with a takedown attempt. Trombone throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fett. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Fett fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Rusty Trombone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bubba Fett. Trombone fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Fett looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fett shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Trombone as he avoids it easily. Trombone misses with a hook. Fett ducked under it nicely. Trombone throws out a loose jab but Fett uses good head movement to avoid it. Fett blocks a head kick by Trombone.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Fett changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Trombone looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Fett is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Trombone is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Fett advances to mount.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Trombone gets back to half guard. Trombone really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Trombone is defending against the submission attempts here by Fett.
Trombone tries to roll over but Fett keeps him under control. Fett is stalling here. Trombone is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Fett seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Trombone has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trombone taking a breather here. Trombone's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Fett tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Trombone wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Trombone is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Fett's shoulder. That is not cool.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rusty Trombone. Trombone jabbing away but nothing is landing. Trombone throws a sloppy head kick and Fett moves out of range easily. Trombone misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Fett checks the leg kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rusty Trombone dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Trombone throws a body punch but Fett moves out of range. Fett fails with the takedown. Trombone lands an overhand right. Fett ducks under a wild hook from Trombone. Trombone looks to throw the jab but Fett is out of range. Fett fails with the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trombone throws a right and a left that Fett avoids nicely. Fett uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Trombone.
Rusty Trombone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Trombone just misses with a punch to the body.
Nice takedown defense from Trombone. No joy for Fett on that attempt. Rusty Trombone has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bubba Fett. Trombone lands a front kick. Trombone misses the shot to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Trombone tests Fett's chin there with a solid looking shot. Trombone works Fett's body with a nice hook. A jab from Trombone misses. Fett looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Trombone thuds a left hand into Fett's body. Bubba Fett is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fett looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Trombone is fending him off so far but Fett persists. Nope, Trombone circles away and we're back to standing. Trombone throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fett has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Fett there as he acknowledges the shot. Trombone fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fett tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Trombone swivels and escapes.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fett drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Nice sprawl there from Trombone as Fett shoots in. Trombone lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Fett staying out of range there. Trombone takes a swing at Fett's ribcage but misses. Trombone lands with a right hand. Fett staying out of range there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rusty Trombone dominated that second round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Trombone tests Fett's chin there with a solid looking shot. Fett with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Trombone to score with a decent uppercut. Fett shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Trombone defends it nicely. Fett moves out of range of the strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Trombone dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Fett. That did some damage! Fett walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Trombone darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Trombone looks to score with a jab to the body but Fett is just out of range. Fett looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Trombone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Trombone. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fett trying to control the position from guard on top but Trombone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fett passes into half guard. Trombone is controlling Fett's trapped leg to prevent Fett from advancing to side control. Fett is working for a kimura but Trombone is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Trombone keeps control of the position for the meantime.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Trombone trying to control from the bottom.
Fett wants to pass the guard but Trombone is defending well. Fett wants to control but Trombone is keeping him busy. Fett is looking to advance position but Trombone won't allow it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Trombone makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Trombone. Fett trying to control the position from guard on top but Trombone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Fett is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Trombone is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Trombone has escaped and now he's on top! Trombone seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
And that's the end of the fight! Rusty Trombone showed his dominance in that final round. Well Trombone has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
