1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Adam Miller! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Sergei Dronov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A shot to the liver by Barca. Beautiful body shot. Barca moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. A jab from Barca misses. Miller throws a head kick that half lands.
Miller should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Barca misses with an uppercut. Miller saw that one coming. Miller feints and as Barca raises his hands in defense, Miller changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Barca keeping moving, preventing Miller from controlling successfully. Miller chips away with some ground and pound. Miller wants to control from the top but Barca keeps moving. Miller trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Barca scores with a nice strike. Miller shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Barca's guard. Miller looks gassed! Barca pushes Miller off and scrambles back to his feet.
Barca lands with a cross. Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barca tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barca to the ground. Barca escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Miller misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Miller takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. A slow jab from Barca misses its intended target. Freddy Barca seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Barca uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Miller has time to react. Miller closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Barca to the mat! Barca manages to get full guard. Barca wants to stand and escape but Miller is having none of it. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Miller throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Barca works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Miller trying to control but Barca is working from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Miller stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barca swivels though and keeps the full guard. Barca is looking to stand up but Miller isn't so interested in that idea. Barca trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Miller uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Barca. Barca doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Miller closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Barca did well to prevent Miller getting side control. Miller is looking for a kimura but Barca is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Miller to get the leverage. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Miller is trying to work for a kimura but Barca is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Miller connects with a nice short shot to Barca's temple.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Miller wants to control but Barca is keeping him busy. Miller lands with a punch from half guard. Miller is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Barca defends it well. Miller scoring with strikes to the body and head. Barca is defending against the submission attempts here by Miller.
Miller seems to be working for a kimura but Barca defends the submission attempt. Miller lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Miller is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Barca is just riding it out for now. Miller eventually gives up the hold.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miller is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Barca sees it coming and defends easily. Miller is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Barca is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Adam Miller!
