PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryan Bader (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Trey Pickett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ryan Bader!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Trey Pickett!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bader shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pickett trying to keep a closed guard but Bader is proving a slippery customer.

Bader drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bader jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pickett looking for a guillotine here but Bader defends easily.

Pickett working for a triangle but Bader defends it easily.
Pickett controls Bader momentarily but Bader frees himself.
Pickett tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Bader stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pickett swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bader decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Pickett, up you get!
Pickett shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Bader counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pickett looks gassed!
Bader passes Pickett's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Bader tries to pass to full mount but Pickett defends it.

Bader stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

and Pickett counters with a shoot takedown. Bader fights it but they end up in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bader wants to stand up but Pickett is controlling him.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bader working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pickett doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pickett manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Pickett pushes down on Bader's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Bader wants to get back to full guard.

Bader is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bader is on top in guard.
Bader lands a couple of elbows.
Bader cracks Pickett with a solid left hand.
Bader passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Bader is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pickett is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bader lands an elbow.
Pickett is working to avoid the ground and pound but Bader connects with a decent elbow.
Pickett tries to improve position but can't.
Pickett is trying to get back to his feet.
Bader scores with a couple of short elbows.
Pickett is looking for a sweep.

Pickett bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Pickett shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pickett showed some decent athleticism there.

Pickett is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Pickett is working for a kimura but Bader is defending it quite comfortably.

Pickett is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Pickett is looking for a kimura but Bader is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pickett to get the leverage.
Bader works his way to full guard. Good work.

Pickett is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Bader lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Pickett looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Bader is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Pickett has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Bader is looking to defend but Pickett has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Bader! Pickett pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Bader taps out and this one is all over!
