PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Parker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balboa kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Gonna Fly Now. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Balboa !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Peter Parker!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Balboa 's waist but Balboa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Parker off to one side.

Parker bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Balboa tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Balboa had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Parker is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Balboa Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Parker's back instead.
Balboa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Balboa doesn't have the hooks in and Parker manages to turn into his guard.
Balboa thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Parker pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Balboa is keeping the position for now.
Balboa controls Parker momentarily but Parker frees himself.
Parker forces his way into half guard.
Parker tries to stand but can't do so whilst Balboa controls his leg.

Parker is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Balboa is looking to improve his position.
Balboa won't allow Parker to pass to mount.

Parker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Balboa is just riding it out for now. Parker eventually gives up the hold.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Parker seems to be working for a kimura but Balboa defends the submission attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Balboa pushes Parker off looking to stand but Parker dives back in and keeps control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Parker moves in looking to clinch but Balboa pushes him off.

Balboa instigates a clinch.
Parker lands a hook that snaps the head of Balboa backwards.

Balboa breaks the clinch.

Parker instigates a clinch.
Parker tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Balboa just stands there and leans against the cage.
Balboa trying to stall but Parker improves his position.

Balboa has Parker pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Balboa pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Parker tumbling to the mat - Balboa dives into Parker's guard.

Parker is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Parker has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Balboa is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Parker.

Parker manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Parker stands up and beckons Balboa to join him on the feet.

Parker closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Parker decides to pull guard.

Parker has his foot on Balboa 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Balboa works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Parker looking for a guillotine here but Balboa defends easily.

Parker has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Balboa should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Parker has tightened it up now! Balboa should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Peter Parker!
