Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ken Cornwall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Earls (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Earls comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Tommy Gun kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Earls! The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Donatello Bradman and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Earls as Cornwall shoots in. Earls scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Cornwall is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Cornwall is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Earls pulls his head out easily. Earls trying to control the action but Cornwall is working from the bottom. Cornwall is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Earls pulls his head out easily. Cornwall gets back to full guard.
Earls is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Earls working some strikes from top position. Earls wants to control from the top but Cornwall keeps moving. Cornwall manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Earls manages to get himself to full guard.
Earls is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. The fighters are battling for position here. Cornwall manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Earls stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cornwall swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cornwall is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Cornwall looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Earls controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Earls looking to pass the guard. Cornwall tries to land a sweep but no joy. Cornwall has his foot on Earls's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Earls works his way back into a safe position though. Earls won't allow Cornwall to sweep him here. Earls wants to control from the top but Cornwall keeps moving. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Earls thows a big elbow that misses. Earls pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cornwall is keeping the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Cornwall keeping moving, preventing Earls from controlling successfully. Earls looks gassed! Cornwall looking for a sweep. Not yet Cornwall, not yet. Earls should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Earls has managed to clinch.
Cornwall fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Earls breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Earls shoots in for a takedown but Cornwall shows good takedown defense. Cornwall with a lazy takedown attempt and Earls counters by moving into the clinch. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ken Cornwall. That's going to take a lot out of him. Cornwall tries to pull guard but Earls holds him up against the cage and eventually Cornwall drops back down to his feet.
Cornwall tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Earls has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Cornwall regains guard immediately. Earls passes into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Cornwall wants to improve his position but Earls is controlling well.
Cornwall manages to get to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cornwall working for a triangle but Earls defends it easily.

Earls stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cornwall swivels though and keeps the full guard. Earls stays in close to Cornwall's body and controls the position. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Earls wants to control from the top but Cornwall keeps moving.

Earls won't allow Cornwall to sweep him here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cornwall looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Cornwall keeping moving, preventing Earls from controlling successfully. Cornwall pushes a forearm under Earls's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Earls is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
