Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Komusubi Ozeki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Go Jira!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jira tries to close the distance and clinch but Ozeki swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jira bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Jira throws a quick inside leg kick.
Jira tries to clinch there but Ozeki circles away.
Danga de danga de dang - Jira scores with a four punch combination!


It looks like Komusubi Ozeki has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jira swats away the attempt to clinch by Ozeki.
Jira tries to clinch up

and Ozeki counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jira's guard now.
Ozeki trying to control but Jira is working from the bottom.
Jira is looking to stand up but Ozeki isn't so interested in that idea.
Ozeki trying to control the position from guard on top but Jira is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ozeki is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jira is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ozeki sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Ozeki might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Komusubi Ozeki.

Ozeki closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jira using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.

Jira breaks the clinch.
Jira tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Ozeki counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Ozeki drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jira gets the underhooks and prevents it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jira is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Ozeki is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Ozeki trying to control but Jira is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jira wants to get back to his feet but Ozeki is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jira fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jira lands with a nice combination. Ozeki backs away looking to recover.
Jira scores with the left hand. Ozeki knows he should have avoided that one.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ozeki misses with a wild body shot.

Ozeki looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jira pushes Ozeki off and gets back to his feet.
Jira fails with an attempt to clinch.
Jira moves in looking to clinch but Ozeki pushes him off.

Ozeki has closed the distance and engaged Jira in a clinch.
Jira looking to stall.

Ozeki tries for a takedown but Jira manages to get underhooks.
Ozeki has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jira avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jira breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jira connects with a high kick.

Jira has closed the distance and engaged Ozeki in a clinch.
Ozeki wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Komusubi Ozeki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jira is trying to break the clinch but Ozeki is controlling him.
Jira trying to stall but Ozeki improves his position.
Ozeki pushes Jira back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.
Jira is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Ozeki wants the takedown. Jira is fighting it off but Ozeki persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Jira's guard against the cage.
Jira wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Ozeki manages to pass to side control.
Jira is staying active underneath Ozeki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ozeki stops Jira from standing up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ozeki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Komusubi Ozeki.

Jira lands a head kick that stumbles Ozeki and the fighters go to the mat.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ozeki not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Go Jira showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Komusubi Ozeki's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Jira throws a nice looking combination but Ozeki bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Go Jira seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jira throws a head kick but Ozeki moves out of range.
Jira throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Jira wants to clinch but Ozeki slips to the side

and Ozeki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
A knee to the head by Jira.
Jira wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Ozeki drags the fight down to the ground.

Ozeki is working an open guard so Jira takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Jira escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ozeki takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Ozeki avoids the body shot from Jira.
Jira goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Jira tries to clinch

and Ozeki counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Ozeki wants to pass the guard but Jira is defending well.
Well, if Ozeki is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Go Jira is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Ozeki wants to take a breather but Jira is having none of it.

Ozeki keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Ozeki's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Komusubi Ozeki.
Ozeki wants to clinch but Jira slips to the side
and Jira counters with an outside leg kick.

Ozeki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Jira wants to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ozeki throws a strike aimed at the side of Jira's head but Jira avoids it well.
Ozeki is looking to take a break and control but Jira is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Jira bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

And that's the end of the fight!
Go Jira comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Jira winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
