Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Meister Stein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Thaiday!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Thaiday gets a takedown into half guard.
Thaiday takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Thaiday sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Stein defending well though.
Thaiday performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Stein is concentrating on defense, preventing Thaiday from advancing position.
Thaiday thows a huge punch but Stein dodges it nicely.
Stein is pressing down on Thaiday's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Thaiday wants to control from the top but Stein keeps moving.
Stein is adopting a defensive guard.
Stein bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Thaiday's guard.

Stein has gone for a leg lock! Thaiday slips out almost immediately though and dives into Stein's guard.
Thaiday being controlled here momentarily.
Thaiday throwing strikes but missing.
Thaiday throws a big right hand that misses.
Thaiday trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stein will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Stein not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Thaiday slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Stein wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Stein looking for a sweep. Not yet Stein, not yet.

We're going to have a standup here because Meister Stein wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Thaiday looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stein is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Thaiday misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Stein is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Thaiday.
Thaiday misses with a two punch combination.
Thaiday throws a series of punches but Stein avoids them all with ease.
Thaiday slips a jab from Stein.
Stein missing with a left hand there. Thaiday was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Thaiday swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Stein has his takedown stuffed

so Thaiday counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Thaiday postures up.
Thaiday throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stein works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Stein tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Stein is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Stein missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Thaiday can do anything to dispel that myth.

Stein is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Stein seems to be working for a kimura but Thaiday defends the submission attempt.

Stein really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Stein thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Thaiday's head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Stein is working for a submission of some sort.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sam Thaiday will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Thaiday looks to land a combination but Stein avoids it well.
Thaiday ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Thaiday slips a straight right by Stein.
Thaiday swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Stein shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Thaiday's guard.
Stein wants to pass the guard but Thaiday is keeping the position.
Stein is looking to work some ground and pound but Thaiday has wrist control.
Stein postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stein connects with a couple of short punches.
Thaiday utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Stein lands a couple of elbows.

Stein postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Thaiday really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stein. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Stein is in close to Thaiday's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stein drops back, looking for a kneebar! Thaiday looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Thaiday looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Thaiday!
Thaiday wants to control but Stein is keeping him busy.

Thaiday tries for a kimura but Stein is defending well.
The strikes coming from Thaiday are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Stein manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Thaiday looking to force a kimura from the bottom here. He's concentrating on that move too much though and Stein pushes past his half guard into mount!

Stein scores with a couple of good head shots there.


It looks like Sam Thaiday has been cut.
Thaiday in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Stein lands a nice shot to the head.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Sam Thaiday's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
