PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rip James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hulk Hogin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James comes into the arena with What's the difference blaring out of the sound system. The crowd seem to be enjoying Hogin's choice of entrance music: real american. The key to victory for Rip James has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hulk Hogin!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James cracks Hogin with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
James swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
James misses with a takedown attempt

and Hogin counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
James works his way to full guard. Good work.

James is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hogin defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James keeping moving, preventing Hogin from controlling successfully.

Hogin won't allow James to sweep him here.

James is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hogin defends well.
Hogin is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
James is looking to stand up but Hogin isn't so interested in that idea.

James is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hogin is trying to control but can't.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
James thows a huge punch but Hogin dodges it nicely.
James is keen to just control but Hogin is a slippery customer.

James is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hogin is just riding it out for now. James eventually gives up the hold.
James will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

James seems to be working for a kimura but Hogin defends the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hogin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
James thows a huge punch but Hogin dodges it nicely.
James works his way into side control.
James lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hogin down.
Hogin regains half guard, as James was trying to land strikes.
James wants to pass the guard but Hogin is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hogin is refusing to be controlled, as James sits in half guard.
James not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
James passes to side control.
James working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rip James dominated that round.
That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

and Hogin counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Hogin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
James tries to land a sweep but no joy.

James has his foot on Hogin's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hogin works his way back into a safe position though.
Hogin won't allow James to sweep him here.

James is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hogin is aware though and is defending well.

James had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Hogin defends it easily.
James looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hogin is one step ahead there.
Hogin's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

James working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hogin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hogin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hogin controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Let's hope that Hogin has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hulk Hogin was stalling too much, according to the referee.
James throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James misses with an uppercut

and Hogin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in James's guard.

James looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
James keeping moving, preventing Hogin from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Hogin is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but James has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Hogin is looking to defend but James has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Hogin! James pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Hogin taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:04 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Rip James!
