Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Craig Hanks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barry Bronson! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hanks fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bronson manages to avoid it. Bronson darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Hanks is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bronson controlling the pace. Bronson not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hanks keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Bronson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Hanks wants to get back to full guard. Bronson uses his free foot to push down on Hanks's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Hanks. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Bronson content just to control the position here. Bronson putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bronson controlling the pace for now. Bronson lands with some strikes. Hanks is trying to stand up. Bronson controlling his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hanks is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hanks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bronson on the ground. Bronson cracks Hanks with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Bronson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Bronson thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bronson controlling his opponent. I looks like Bronson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Barry Bronson dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Hanks throws a one two combo.
Bronson takes the fight into the clinch. Bronson stalling.
Bronson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Bronson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Hanks as he avoids it easily. Hanks fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Bronson on the side of the head. Hanks's corner calls for a 1-2. Hanks obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. Hanks connects with a right hand. Bronson shakes it off. Hanks drops a shoulder and throws an uppercut that cracks Bronson right on the button. Bronson goes down! Hanks follows him to the mat and finishes the job with more strikes! Hanks gets the win via TKO!
