PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between shukugi medina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ikuto Takeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, shukugi medina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ikuto Takeda !
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
medina fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Takeda connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Takeda throws a right and a left that medina avoids nicely.
Takeda misses with a hook.
Takeda misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Takeda lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Takeda scores with a nice strike.
Takeda cracks medina with a right hand to the side of the head.
medina shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
medina takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

medina has Takeda up against the cage in a clinch.
medina tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Takeda smiles and moves away.
Takeda lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but medina circles away quickly and effectively.

medina closes the distance and pushes Takeda back into the cage.
medina fails to pull the fight into his guard.

medina changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Takeda fights it off and pushes away nicely.

medina shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Takeda 's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
Takeda really doesn't want to stay on the ground with medina. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
medina throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
medina tries to control but Takeda wriggling away.

medina has control of Takeda 's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Takeda regains control of the situation pretty easily.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
medina can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Takeda is looking to escape.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Takeda can do anything to dispel that myth.

Takeda is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

medina fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Takeda avoids it really well and circles away.

Ikuto Takeda is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Nice sprawl there from Takeda as medina shoots in.
Takeda rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but medina moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
medina tries to close the distance and clinch but Takeda swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
medina has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from medina there as he acknowledges the shot.
medina misses with a low kick.

medina shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Takeda pinned against the cage. Takeda gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Takeda bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ikuto Takeda will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Ikuto Takeda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Takeda might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Takeda will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
medina explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
medina takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
