PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doris Schankelies (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Khaled Hosseini (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doris Schankelies!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Khaled Hosseini!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schankelies throws a leg kick but Hosseini checks it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Schankelies. That's going to slow Hosseini down.
Schankelies scores with a push kick.
Schankelies throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Schankelies misses with a takedown attempt - Hosseini sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Schankelies tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hosseini swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Schankelies could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schankelies is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Schankelies can't keep his opponent in guard - Hosseini advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hosseini takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Schankelies is looking to get back to full guard here but Hosseini has managed to pass to side control instead.

Hosseini sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Hosseini is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Schankelies has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Schankelies!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hosseini is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hosseini lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Schankelies!
Schankelies is breathing heavily.
Hosseini prevents Schankelies from getting the reversal.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Schankelies might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Schankelies is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hosseini is looking to stand up but Schankelies isn't so interested in that idea.
Schankelies stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hosseini swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hosseini has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Schankelies off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Schankelies closes the distance and clinches up with Hosseini, looking for a takedown. Schankelies pushes Hosseini against the cage but Hosseini circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Doris Schankelies. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Schankelies throws a low kick, looking for Hosseini's leg but Hosseini calmly moves out of range.

Doris Schankelies has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Khaled Hosseini comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hosseini has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
