PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Kurr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pablo Escobar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Kurr!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Alec Ball and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Escobar tries to clinch but Kurr is having none of it.
Kurr misses with a head kick.

Escobar throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kurr tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Escobar is in Kurr's guard.
Escobar wants to control from the top but Kurr keeps moving.
Kurr lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Escobar!
Escobar is looking to get to half guard.
Kurr looking to control but Escobar is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Escobar tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kurr throwing strikes but Escobar recovers to half guard. A much better position.
Escobar is positioning himself well to prevent Kurr advancing to mount.
Escobar won't allow Kurr to pass to mount.
Kurr tries to stand and escape but Escobar is controlling the position.

Escobar is defending against the submission attempts here by Kurr.

Escobar kicks off Kurr and gets to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A right-left combo lands from Escobar.
Escobar bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Kurr tries to clinch
and Escobar finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Kurr looks gassed!
A lazy left from Escobar finds it's target.
Escobar throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kurr's head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Escobar tries a head kick but it misses.
Escobar scores with a hook to the body. Kurr takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Escobar shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Escobar slows the pace down in half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Escobar passes to side control.
Escobar remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Escobar cracks Kurr with a big right hand but Kurr just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Escobar decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Kurr misses with a double jab.
Escobar clinches but Kurr breaks the clinch
and Kurr counters with a nice body shot.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Escobar is defended easily by Kurr.
Escobar scores with a three punch combo!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pablo Escobar dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Escobar closes the distance and clinches up with Kurr, looking for a takedown. Escobar pushes Kurr against the cage but Kurr circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kurr tries to land a front kick but Escobar steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Escobar looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Kurr wants to control but Escobar is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Escobar slows the pace down in half guard.
Kurr is looking for a sweep. Escobar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Escobar escapes and gets back to his feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Escobar looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Kurr is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
A nice leg kick lands there from Escobar.
Kurr misses with a combination
and Escobar makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Kurr really felt that one!
Kurr is breathing heavily.
Escobar scores with a jab to the jaw.

Escobar closes the distance and pushes Kurr back into the cage.
Escobar pressing his opponent against the cage.
Escobar tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kurr is looking to control Escobar's arms but Escobar gets an underhook and turns him. Now Kurr has his back to the cage.
Escobar keeps control of Kurr as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kurr tries to circle away but Escobar has him pinned against the cage.
Escobar landing knees to the body.

Escobar gets control of Kurr's arms and successfully pulls guard. Escobar will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Escobar has control of Kurr's left arm, preventing Kurr from doing any damage.

Kurr is posturing up here but Escobar has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Kurr tries to roll out but it's too tight and Kurr has to tap! Slick submission there by Escobar!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Pablo Escobar!
