PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Mark Hitman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bertil Berra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Berra has chosen Seven nation Army as his entrance music. Bertil Berra will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Hitman !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bertil Berra!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Glass and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hitman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Berra wants to stand but Hitman is controlling the position.

Hitman is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hitman prevents Berra from getting back to his feet.
Berra keeping moving, preventing Hitman from controlling successfully.
Hitman pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Berra is keeping the position for now.
Berra looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hitman is one step ahead there.
Berra keeping full guard, as Hitman tries to pass.
Berra pulls Hitman in close to his closed guard and prevents Hitman from doing any damage or advancing position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Berra misses with a takedown

and Hitman counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Berra really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hitman . If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hitman stops Berra from getting back to his feet.
Berra wants to control but Hitman is keeping busy.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Berra wants to get back to full guard.

Hitman is looking for a kimura but Berra is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Hitman to get the leverage.
Berra is trying to stand.
Berra is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Berra is not content to let Hitman control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Berra shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hitman counters with a shoot takedown. Berra fights it but they end up in guard.
Hitman trying to control the position from guard on top but Berra is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Berra wants to stand up but Hitman is controlling him.
Hitman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Hitman is looking to work some ground and pound but Berra has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hitman works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hitman is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Berra is just riding it out for now. Hitman eventually gives up the hold.
Hitman is breathing heavily.
Berra is looking to control Hitman 's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Berra avoid being mounted?
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Berra is trying to stand.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Berra is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Berra is staying active underneath Hitman , who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Hitman seems to be working for a kimura but Berra defends the submission attempt.
Hitman trying to mount his opponent but Berra defends it.
Berra misses with some strikes from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Berra can do anything to dispel that myth.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Berra scores a takedown into full mount!
Berra scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Berra lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Hitman is looking to improve his position but Berra isn't that keen on the idea.
A nice elbow there by Berra.
Berra lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Berra fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Berra cracks Hitman with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Berra is landing with some decent strikes but Hitman is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Berra lands a big elbow.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A nice elbow there by Berra.
Hitman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Berra is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Hitman really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Berra cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Hitman tries to lock up and control but Berra gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Berra with shots to the head and body - Hitman looks very uncomfortable down there.
Berra lands a heavy elbow.
Berra dominating with strikes here.
Hitman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Berra lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Berra lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Hitman hang on?
Hitman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hitman keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Hitman dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Berra shoots and misses

and Hitman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Berra won't be happy with that.

Hitman is trying to get an arm triangle but Berra is defending well.
Berra is trying to control Hitman 's posture but Hitman avoids it.
Hitman trying to control the position but Berra is working away.
Berra struggling a bit here.

Berra is wriggling around trying to escape but Hitman has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Berra taps out and Hitman picks up the big win! Great work there by Hitman !
