Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Big Hurt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Shlemenko ! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Sergei Dronov and Ivan Kurochkin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shlemenko drives through with a takedown into guard. Hurt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Shlemenko controls the pace. Hurt looking for subs off his back but Shlemenko has passed one foot through into half guard.
Hurt avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Shlemenko . Hurt wants to get back to his feet. Shlemenko looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Shlemenko passes the guard and advances to mount! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shlemenko putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Shlemenko landing shots from mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hurt is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Shlemenko in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Hurt really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shlemenko blocks Hurt's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Shlemenko connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Hurt tries to hold on but Shlemenko pushes him away. Hurt is desperately trying to improve his position but Shlemenko has a good base and remains in mount. Shlemenko landing strikes from the mount and Hurt is in trouble! Hurt is trying to escape the mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Hurt is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Shlemenko tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Hurt in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Shlemenko is working for a guillotine from mount but Hurt frees his head quite easily.
The referee warns Hurt that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Shlemenko working away from the top, dropping strikes. Hurt tries to hold on but Shlemenko postures up. Hurt taking shots to the head. Hurt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shlemenko on the ground. Hurt working to try and regain half guard.
Hurt is working hard here to advance position. Hurt taking shots to the head. Shlemenko is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Hurt to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Hurt shrugs it off. Shlemenko looking to control but Hurt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Shlemenko landing strikes, looking to finish!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shlemenko tries to control but Hurt wriggling away. Shlemenko working the ground and pound effectively.
Hurt sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Hurt is refusing to be controlled, as Shlemenko sits in half guard. Hurt is doing well to control the position and prevent Shlemenko from advancing to side control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Shlemenko stops Hurt from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Alexander Shlemenko dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hurt tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Big Hurt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A momentary lapse in concentration from Hurt enables Shlemenko to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Hurt manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Hurt controls Shlemenko momentarily but Shlemenko frees himself. Shlemenko wants to control from the top but Hurt keeps moving. Shlemenko drops back looking for a leg! Hurt is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hurt manages to kick Shlemenko off! Shlemenko jumps back into Hurt's guard. Hurt is looking for a triangle here but Shlemenko uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Hurt seems a little lost for a moment, as Shlemenko dominates the positioning.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shlemenko decides to stand back up. Shlemenko steps back and let's Hurt get back to his feet. Shlemenko is breathing heavily. Hurt misses with a takedown and Shlemenko counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hurt lands a body punch in the clinch. A short right from Hurt on the inside. Shlemenko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Hurt pulls him back up using the underhooks. Hurt is trying to break the clinch but Shlemenko has him pressed against the cage. Hurt lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Hurt misses with the head strike.
Hurt gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hurt is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Shlemenko !
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hurt is landing with some decent strikes but Shlemenko is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Shlemenko is squirming around, avoiding Hurt's attempts to control the action. Hurt lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Hurt putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Hurt controlling the pace for now. This has been an exciting period of action!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hurt goes for an armbar but Shlemenko turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Shlemenko . Shlemenko trying to control but Hurt is working from the bottom. Hurt is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Hurt working for a triangle but Shlemenko defends it easily.
Shlemenko landing with the ground and pound. Hurt controls Shlemenko momentarily but Shlemenko frees himself. Hurt looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shlemenko is one step ahead there. Hurt preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Big Hurt dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Hurt tries to clinch and Shlemenko counters with a shoot takedown. Hurt fights it but they end up in guard. Shlemenko wants to control from the top but Hurt keeps moving. Shlemenko might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hurt kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Hurt is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Hurt is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Shlemenko rolls with it to try and escape but Hurt cranks on the arm and Shlemenko is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
