Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thomas Breaker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Layfield! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Eddie Farnsworth and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Layfield uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Breaker.
Layfield has a takedown stuffed. Breaker connects with a nice looking jab.
Breaker scores with a nice right hand.
Thomas Breaker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Layfield dives in and grabs Breaker's left leg, looking for a takedown. Breaker pushes down on Layfield's head and hops out. Layfield shoots in looking for a takedown. Breaker tries to sprawl out of it but Layfield keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Breaker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Thomas Breaker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Layfield. Layfield fails with a takedown attempt. Layfield tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Breaker swivels and escapes. Layfield changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Breaker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Layfield tries for a kimura but Breaker is defending well. Breaker is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Breaker is looking to reverse the position. Layfield is trying to get an arm triangle but Breaker is defending well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Layfield tries to land with some ground and pound but misses. Layfield trying to control the action but Breaker is working from the bottom. Layfield is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Breaker is trying to escape and Layfield transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Breaker is forced to tap! Nice work there by Layfield! Very nice indeed!
