Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nikolai Gavrik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexander Shlemenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Gavrik!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alexander Shlemenko!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shlemenko shoots in and gets a takedown into Gavrik's guard.
Gavrik is looking to stand up but Shlemenko isn't so interested in that idea.
Gavrik is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Shlemenko wants to control from the top but Gavrik keeps moving.
Shlemenko prevents Gavrik from getting back to his feet.
Gavrik tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gavrik knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shlemenko on the ground.

Shlemenko drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Shlemenko jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Shlemenko is fighting to break Gavrik's control of his arms but Gavrik is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Gavrik is wriggling around but Shlemenko manages to pass to half guard.
Gavrik wants to get back to full guard.

Shlemenko is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Gavrik!

Shlemenko has hold of Gavrik's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Gavrik manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Gavrik reaches up to try and control the position but Shlemenko seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Gavrik rolls and tries to escape and now Shlemenko has his back!

Gavrik is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Shlemenko gets his way!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Gavrik got a little sloppy there for a moment and Shlemenko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gavrik has managed to get both his arms back between Shlemenko's legs - danger averted.

That was a close second round but I would say that Nikolai Gavrik will probably get the nod.

Gavrik tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Shlemenko paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Gavrik leaves Shlemenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
