PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hakeem Alaju Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Rasta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rasta has chosen one love as his entrance music. Hakeem Alaju Dong has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hakeem Alaju Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Rasta!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, John Mangel and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dong darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Rasta really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dong stops Rasta from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dong wants to work for an arm triangle but Rasta is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dong is working for a kimura but Rasta is defending it quite comfortably.
Ground and pound from Dong.
Rasta taking some punishment here, with Dong in his half guard.
Dong uses his free foot to push down on Rasta's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Rasta.
Rasta is working to get back to half guard.
Rasta is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Dong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rasta is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dong unloading with bombs!
Rasta looks gassed!
Dong landing strikes from the mount and Rasta is in trouble!

Dong working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Rasta tries to hold on but Dong postures up.
Rasta is squirming around, avoiding Dong's attempts to control the action.
Dong looking to finish Rasta with some ground and pound. This is bad for Rasta!

Dong stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Dong drives through with a takedown into guard.
Dong trying to control the position from guard on top but Rasta is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Rasta trying to keep a closed guard but Dong is proving a slippery customer.
Rasta striking off his back but it's not causing Dong any problems.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rasta is trying to keep Dong in close.
Dong pushing down on Rasta's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Dong stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Rasta to get to his feet.
Rasta throws a head kick but Dong moves out of range.
Rasta gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Dong counters with a shoot takedown. Rasta fights it but they end up in guard.
Dong wants to control from the top but Rasta keeps moving.

Dong postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Rasta is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dong, into his guard.
Dong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dong bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rasta's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dong works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Dong is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Rasta has managed to free his arm - good work.
Dong trying to control the action but Rasta is working from the bottom.

Rasta is defending against the submission attempts here by Dong.
Rasta has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dong is working away from the top position though.
Rasta won't allow Dong to pass to mount.

Dong is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Dong is thwarting Rasta's attempts to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rasta might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dong kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dong is looking for a kimura but Rasta is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dong to get the leverage.

Dong is looking for a kimura here.
Rasta is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Still in half guard, Dong seems content to control.
Dong passes to side control.
Dong lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dong wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rasta, who protects the arm well.
Dong takes a little break here. Rasta wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hakeem Alaju Dong dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Dong changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rasta looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dong working away.
Dong has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Rasta!
Dong trying to control but Rasta is having none of it.
Rasta working to try and regain half guard.

Dong swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Hakeem Alaju Dong!
