PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Michael Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rapid Montez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lewis's entrance music is MC Vapour - Jungles Massive. A fine choice. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Montez decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Lewis trying to control but Montez postures up.
Lewis is pressing down on Montez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Montez trying to control the position from guard on top but Lewis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Montez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lewis is proving hard to escape from.
Lewis wants to stand but Montez is controlling the position.
Montez sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Montez wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.

Lewis tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Montez slips under a jab.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Lewis.
Lewis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Montez's waist but Montez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lewis off to one side.
Lewis fails with the takedown.
Lewis wants to clinch.
Montez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Montez circles away from the clinch attempt.

Montez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lewis sprawls well initially but Montez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Montez wants to free his trapped foot but Lewis is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Montez looks gassed!
Montez not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Montez tries to stand but can't do so whilst Lewis controls his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lewis tries to roll over but Montez keeps him under control.
Lewis makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lewis.

Montez stands and steps away. Lewis gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Montez throws a sloppy head kick and Lewis moves out of range easily.
Lewis shoots for a double leg takedown but Montez sprawls well. He's pushed Lewis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michael Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Montez!
Lewis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Lewis tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Montez swivels and escapes.
Lewis fails with a takedown attempt.
Lewis connects with a jab.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Lewis.
Montez misses with a wild combination.

Montez takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Lewis takes one to the chin there.
Lewis looks for a takedown but Montez sprawls well.
Montez shoots and misses

and Lewis counters with a shoot takedown. Montez fights it but they end up in guard.
Lewis won't allow Montez to sweep him here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Lewis is looking to work some ground and pound but Montez has wrist control.
Lewis is fighting to break Montez's control of his arms but Montez is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Lewis postures up.
Lewis might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Montez kicks Lewis off and gets to his feet.
Montez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Lewis misses with a looping left.
Rapid Montez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Montez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Lewis can pounce on him.
Lewis wants to clinch.

Montez moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Montez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Lewis pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Lewis fails to pull guard.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Montez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Lewis fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Montez stuffs the takedown attempt from Lewis. Lewis gets slowly back to his feet.
Lewis keeps the fight on the outside.
Lewis is looking to clinch.

Montez gets the takedown into side control.

Montez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lewis, who protects the arm well.
Lewis is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Montez has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Lewis is trying to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lewis takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Montez stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rapid Montez dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lewis tries for a takedown but Montez sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Lewis fails in his attempt to clinch.
Lewis wants to clinch up but Montez keeps it at a distance.
Lewis closes the distance looking to clinch
and Montez counters with a monster head kick that knocks Lewis out cold! He topples like fallen a tree, crashing to the mat! Timbeeeeeerrr!
