PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Biff Boneham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Via Dios (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boneham comes into the arena with Relax And Ride It blaring out of the sound system. Dios comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sandstorm kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Via Dios will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Biff Boneham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Via Dios!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dios looks to land a right hand but Boneham moved out of range.
Dios takes a swing at Boneham's ribcage but misses.
Boneham uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dios.

Dios fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Boneham manages to avoid it.
Dios throws a jab but it's blocked by Boneham.
Via Dios seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Boneham shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dios as he avoids it easily.

Boneham takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Dios is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dios swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Boneham changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Dios looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Dios wants to get back to his feet but Boneham drags him back down.
Boneham cracks Dios with a big right hand but Dios just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Dios is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Boneham asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Dios pushes Boneham off looking to stand but Boneham dives back in and keeps control.

Boneham is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dios doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Boneham.
Boneham wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dios keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Via Dios will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Dios lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Boneham takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Boneham misses with a wild body shot.
Dios throws a sloppy head kick and Boneham moves out of range easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dios enables Boneham to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dios manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Dios lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Boneham!

Dios goes for an armbar but Boneham turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Boneham.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dios is on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boneham has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Boneham drops back looking for a leg! Dios is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dios manages to kick Boneham off! Boneham jumps back into Dios's guard.

Boneham got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dios has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Boneham has managed to get both his arms back between Dios's legs - danger averted.

Boneham controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Boneham sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dios's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Via Dios comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Dios has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
