PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Peppu Reiska MacDonald (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yosunaro Masashi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). MacDonald comes to the cage accompanied by Globus - Europa (Instrumental Version) . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peppu Reiska MacDonald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Yosunaro Masashi!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Masashi misses the shot to the body.

MacDonald closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Masashi to the mat! Masashi manages to get full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as MacDonald accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
MacDonald loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Masashi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as MacDonald controls the pace.
MacDonald passes Masashi's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

MacDonald perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

MacDonald wants to work for an arm triangle but Masashi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Masashi is looking to escape.
MacDonald performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
MacDonald is nestled in close to Masashi, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

MacDonald is looking for a kimura but Masashi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for MacDonald to get the leverage.

MacDonald's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Masashi throws a right hand that MacDonald ducks under and follows up with a left that MacDonald also avoids with ease.

MacDonald throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Masashi was covering up waiting for the punch and MacDonald finishes the takedown easily into guard.

MacDonald drops back, looking for a kneebar! Masashi looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Masashi looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Masashi!
Masashi tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on MacDonald's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
MacDonald on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if MacDonald tries to get out of the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
MacDonald is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
MacDonald is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Masashi off and has taken his back!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
MacDonald biding his time, looking for the opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
MacDonald throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Masashi takes a big shot to the side of the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Masashi wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peppu Reiska MacDonald dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Masashi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from MacDonald.

MacDonald shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than MacDonald was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The referee warns Masashi that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
MacDonald takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

MacDonald jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Masashi is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Masashi and MacDonald has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Peppu Reiska MacDonald.
Masashi throws a series of strikes that have MacDonald backpedaling.

MacDonald has Masashi up against the cage in a clinch.
MacDonald effectively controlling the action here.

MacDonald works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
MacDonald slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
MacDonald tries to free his leg and advance position but Masashi is retaining full guard.
Masashi utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Masashi is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst MacDonald is controlling him.
MacDonald with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Masashi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with MacDonald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Masashi swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by MacDonald.
MacDonald lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

MacDonald has Masashi up against the cage in a clinch.
MacDonald keeps control of Masashi as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with MacDonald for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

MacDonald breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

MacDonald feints and as Masashi raises his hands in defense, MacDonald changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
MacDonald is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Peppu Reiska MacDonald showed his dominance in that final round.
Well MacDonald has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
