The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The Spider circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith moves into the clinch. Smith leaning against his opponent.
The Spider tries to circle away but Smith has him pinned against the cage. The Spider wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. The Spider has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment. Smith stalling against the cage.

The Spider tries to pull guard but Smith holds him up against the cage and eventually The Spider drops back down to his feet.

Smith gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. The Spider jumps guard but Smith stands there with The Spider around his waist. The Spider gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Victor Smith. Smith takes the fight into the clinch. The Spider lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage. Smith avoiding damage.
Smith scores with a nice hook to the head. Smith lands a hook to the side of the head. Smith manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Smith sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed The Spider 's guard. Smith works his way into full mount! The Spider is breathing heavily. Smith gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Smith has managed to clinch.

Smith swings wildly with an uppercut but The Spider uses good head movement to avoid it. Smith breaks the clinch.
Smith circles away from the clinch attempt and Smith counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The Spider is refusing to be controlled, as Smith sits in half guard. Smith is trying to work for a kimura but The Spider is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith is looking to take a break and control but The Spider is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Smith escapes and gets back to his feet. Smith rushes The Spider and presses him up against the cage. The Spider 's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button! A head punch on the inside from Smith fails to land. Smith is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. The Spider has had enough of the clinch but Smith keeps him there for the moment. The Spider has hold of one of Smith's legs. Smith is fighting the takedown attempt but The Spider gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Smith is looking to stand up but The Spider isn't so interested in that idea. The Spider trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.

Smith's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Smith closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. The Spider did well to prevent Smith getting side control. Smith wants to stand up but The Spider has a hold of him and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The Spider is not content to let Smith control the position.

Smith stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows The Spider to get to his feet. The Spider gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The Spider keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Smith wanted to stand there but The Spider had control of the position. The Spider tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Smith was well out of range. Poor timing from The Spider . Smith has The Spider up against the cage in a clinch.
Smith lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. The Spider looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. A bit of stalling here from Smith.

The Spider controls Smith momentarily but Smith frees himself. Smith stops The Spider from standing up. Smith controlling from the top position. Smith is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Smith. Smith stands up and beckons The Spider to his feet. Smith gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
