Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Hunter! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Blaine Bishop! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hunter clinches with his opponent.
Bishop fails to pull guard.
Bishop taking a breather. Bishop is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Hunter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Bishop wants to break the clinch but can't.
Hunter pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Bishop is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hunter sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. James Hunter has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Blaine Bishop. Hunter misses with a straight left. Bishop has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Hunter finds it's way round the side to connect with Bishop's head. James Hunter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Bishop bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Bishop stands up. Hunter throws a big shot that misses. Hunter throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Hunter is breathing heavily. Bishop avoids a punch combination nicely.
Bishop shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Bishop was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bishop content just to control the position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Let's hope that Bishop has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bishop throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Hunter because Bishop loaded up on that one. Hunter is trying to stand but he's just given Bishop his back. Bishop is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Bishop's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Bishop missing with punches from the back. Bishop struggling to land strikes to the head as Hunter covers up. I would not like to be Hunter right now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Hunter is trying to get back to his feet but Bishop has full control of the position and if anything, Hunter has just worked his way into a worse spot. Hunter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Bishop on the ground. Bishop misses with a punch to the head. Bishop biding his time, looking for the opening.
Bishop is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Hunter has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Bishop has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Hunter taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Bishop doesn't care though - he's delighted!
